MPs can claim up to 3,700 GBP for being re-called from their holiday today, to pay respect to thatcher no wonder they are expecting riots at her 8 million pounds funeral , and that price is without the cost of security.

Did you watch William Hague on BBC this morning?

Might be worth a view...
I would still like to know why she is being afforded a funeral like this when in my living memory the only other ex PM to have a funeral of this sort of scale was Winston Churchill, I personally see no comparison.
I watched William Hague this morning, ummmm. I don't really agree with her ultra-fancy funeral, but he had a point.
is that £3,700 each ?
Of course there will be riots and, for the first time ever, I shall understand why. That evil woman who destroyed this country deserves a pauper's funeral to make up for her extravagant lifestyle at the Ritz.

YES
£8 million. for this funeral. ( without security funding ) surely not ?
He made a very good point.
That is the same for any civil servant - if they are away or their holiday is cancelled for business reasons they can reclaim the costs.
She was staying at the Ritz free of charge on invite from the owners!
diddlydo, //Of course there will be riots and, for the first time ever, I shall understand why. That evil woman who destroyed this country ..... //

If you understand what justifies yobs destroying the country, do tell - because I don't.
mrs, t. was indeed staying free of charge at the ritz. i believe in a suite costing £3,600 per night,
I saw Hague trying to off-set the cost of her fulneral against the EU rebate

Quite laughable really

Shall we deduct the cost of losing and retaking the Falklands?
Then deduct the cost of the miners strike?
Add in money raised from privatisation?

Rather a ridiculuous way of justifying what is basically a big PR campaign for the Tories
>>>>That evil woman who destroyed this country

I think you mean saved this country.

Go on to the internet and look for Winter of Discontent, 1978/1979 (under a labour government) where the country was on its knees. We had unions demanding 30% pay rises, holding the country to ransom, trying to push it towards a communist state.

We were broke, and the laughing stock of Europe.

Thatcher dragged us out of that, put us back on the world stage, and make Britiain "Great" again (for a time).

The only reason Blair and Brown were able to get into power with the country in such a good state was because of the groundwork Thatcher laid.

If Thatcher had not come to power we would be where Spain and Portugal and Greece are now, going cap in had to the EU to stop the country going bankrupt.

Some may not be old enough to remember but pre-Thatcher we had many badly run nationalized industries like the GPO (phones), the Gas Board, the Electricity board, British Rail and so on.

These were over manned, innefficient, baldy run and gave a TERRIBLE service (I know I worked for the GPO). You had no choice but to use all these companies as there was no competition.

Now you can get your phone service from many companies, go to any high street and buy a mobile phone from many shops, get trains from many different train suppliers and so on.

This country is a FAR FAR better country than it was pre-Thatcher and we have her to thank.

These young morons who are dancing on her photographs would be in for a shock if they went back to the 1970s to see what life was like then. They don't know how lucky they are.
I just knew someone would whine about the cost at some point. Tell you what take it out of the WSS budget.

What do you do for a living bayboy?

I AM AN ACCOUNTANT, AT THE RITZ .I think I can guess what the UXD stands for in Danger UXD .
Why can't the family pay for the funeral? £8 million from Mark's estimated £60 million wouldn't break the bank. It's the least he can do to repay Mummy for 'rescuing' him when he got lost, some 50 miles off course, during a motor rally in the Sahara Desert.

Dipstick!
