Well that didn't last long did it, it is said he doesn't want to be separated from his wife and forthcoming child.

I wonder how all those other 'full time' armed force personnel, who also have wives and families, feel when they regularly carry out six month tours of active duty, not in nearby peaceful Anglesey, but in far off dangerous Afghanistan?

at least William had a job, he did it well from all accounts, now he has to take a different role, not just being a father, but one day heir to the throne.
I actually think that Charles was a good father, seeing as how he has had the guardianship of caring for the two boys since they were quite a young age.

I don't see the problem with him leaving the services. The younger royals seem to be taking over more and more official duties now.

Got to agree with Anne about the nannies though. Of course they will have nannies - unless great-grandma's going to babysit when they're out working.

me neither, and considering how old Prince Philip and the Queen are, it isn't really surprising. She still soldiers on, but that won't last for ever, and William will take on more Royal duties as time goes on.

agree with the last three comments - and Prince Charles is no spring chicken either...wouldn't surprise me to see William become Prince Regent.

I really don't understand why people can't just leave them alone. He's not a bad guy for wanting to be near his family. If he wasn't there someone would accuse him of allowing his child to be brought up by nannies and blah blah on about all the psychological damage done to it etc. They really can't win. I don't like the idea of the monarchy but we've got them, by mostly public consensus so we should treat them accordingly since by and large I think they try to do a good job. If we don't want them get rid of them, but since we apparently do, leave them alone to get on with it.

The investment made into Prince William is not about him coming Air Marshall Landing-Gear or General Ivor Gusset, it's about him becoming King....it's now time to spend a period learning the ropes and, who knows, perhaps a Governorship somewhere, (Canada?) as that is what his Dad and Mum should have done.

Quite right anotheoldgit, hubby not long retired from RAF after 35 yrs, we learnt to live with the times apart from each other, it had no adverse effect on the children as everyone around us was in the same position.

sqad - how did that work out for you? By your own admission your son is in your eyes a useless waster - perhaps if you'd been a more hands on dad he wouldn't be?
