Well that didn't last long did it, it is said he doesn't want to be separated from his wife and forthcoming child.

I wonder how all those other 'full time' armed force personnel, who also have wives and families, feel when they regularly carry out six month tours of active duty, not in nearby peaceful Anglesey, but in far off dangerous Afghanistan?

they have the same choice: if they want to stay with their families, don't take work in the armed forces. Chartered accountancy is more likely to provide work near home.

It lasted since he graduated from Sandhurst which has to be 8 years ago.
Yes so he wants to be near his young family and be a hands on dad so what? He has served his time in the forces - he was never going to be a career soldier.

Well done him I say, he'll turn out to be a better father than the one he's got. Charles doesn't inspire me as anything but a waste of space. Harry's doing his bit in Afghanistan, as much a he's allowed to.

No one can deny that he has certainly 'done his bit'.
Maybe you need to read the whole link yourself AOG. I too think the privatisation of search and rescue operations played a big part in his decision.
Furthermore, Servicemen in a similar position do not have the added factors of Royal engagements to attend (the article says his are set to increase) to nor the weight of expectation of heir to the throne.

Cut the lad some slack, I'm sure there'll be a news story involving non-whites along shortly for you to post about.

I read that his tour was coming to an end anyway. Looks like he is ready for pastures new. Seems fair enough.

I don't have any problem with this - he does a lot of other things too. I wouldn't like to have any of the Royals' jobs, never able to be away from all of us who want to know everything about them.
He did go to the Falklands some time ago, if I remember correctly.

I think he's done a great job as a S&R pilot - he couldn't go to frontline duties so has 'put in a shift' in a skilful job rescuing people off mountains, cliffs and the like in hazardous situations. BBC Wales has been running a documentary series called Helicopter Rescue showing him, and all the other aircrew, at work - interesting stuff
