PC going mad (no surprise really), nothings been said that warrants an apology.
everybodys scared to open their damn mouths in case they offend some so called ethnic or other.
everybody wants to be offended, whats the matter with them all
These people need to get over themselves and grow some for once, they might get a little more respect, doubt thats occurred to them though

Or drunk British women wearing too much fake tan, too short skirts, too tight clothes flashing their bits and throwing up on the street outside a nightclub in the Costas.

No Fred, I’m not saying that “…that no sensible human should be offended at coloured or references to fried chicken.” They clearly are. What I’m saying is that not everybody can be expected to keep up with some of this perceived offence. Since yesterday I have spoken to a number of people about the “fried chicken” incident and not one of them had any idea firstly that it was a term of offence and secondly how on earth it has become so in particular to American black people. A number of by friends still believe it is “incorrect” to refer to black people as black, suggesting instead they should be called “coloured”. Furthermore it seems OK for people of the same ethnic background to use terms between themselves (even with malice) which would amount to a criminal offence if uttered by somebody of a different skin colour. People cannot and should not be expected to keep up with all this.
Many groups of people have large numbers of foibles over all sorts of terms. They need to be more resilient. I now know that the person who uttered the fried chicken phrase probably did so in full knowledge of its connotations. Whether he did so in jest or with malice is not so clear. But as I said in my reply to Andy, it’s not the end of the world and certainly not something that should make headlines in a newspaper. As an aside, what made the article all the more incredulous was that the alleged victim of this most vile and insidious insult, who was said to be deeply hurt and upset at the jibe, is none other than that steadfast guardian of probity and morality, one Tiger Woods!

NJ,at least O'Grady says of his organisation " We all know the connotation in the United States". You or I might not; I was as initially puzzled as you were; but Garcia certainly knew it. And neither of us would wish to use what is a known insult, in all innocence or not, and we would apologise for our innocent ignorance, saying that no insult or offence was meant, wouldn't we ? We can't all be au fait with the culture and rules of other countries, but it is not the fault of the offended locals, whose culture and rules they are, if we break local rules of etiquette or use of language, is it? It's really no answer to say that we didn't know the practice had changed and then blame them for it; we should try to keep up.
This was big news on the sports pages rather than in general world news
That a man who is a serial adulterer should not be allowed, somehow, to take offence, or not complain, when he is the subject of racial abuse is an argument of no validity. At what point does he cease to be human and thus lose his right to feel as a human?
