To find and take action against the scum that did this as they were against people who made so called racist remarks on social media ?

as i have visited it i didn't see where they could put cctv cameras. It's a very large memorial, i hope the catch they SOB's, i am always amazed that no one believes that a fanatic would do this, so blame the EDL,
If the graffiti had been in Arabic script you might think there was less chance that a EDL member had a hand in this. CCTV may eventually show who did it.
if it does and it is a white man with EDL scrawled across his forehead i hope the police give him a good kicking.
why would it be in Arabic script, seeing as how many of our home grown types wouldn't know Arabic from a hole in the wall.
// i am always amazed that no one believes that a fanatic would do this, so blame the EDL //

Em, at the moment we do not know who did this. We are not blaming the EDL we are offering that as a possiblity instead of the kneejerk assumption it was a muslim fanatic. I am sure there are muslims who would do this, but the message is an odd one.
It could be somebody called Isla M with no grasp of punctuation.

Calm down until it's investigated.
If it were in any foreign script, that would be more compelling evidence that the offender was Muslim. It's the one word, "Islam", which doesn't ring true
sorry but some just won't accept that we have vipers in our nest, they may be small band or large groups, but they are there, i don't like the EDL no more the BNP. never have, but i heartily hate the likes the fanatics that have no caused outrage on our streets, 52 killed and hundreds more injured in London, then this vile murder of a soldier, not to mention the potty police, security services allowing these people to march down the streets waving their placards, death to all soldiers, behead them, you see why i can't get my head around anyone supporting the fanatics, neither side wins, and we as per usual are caught in the middle
I agree from it strange message...anyone may have done it..hope they find the scum!
Why is it an odd message? It promotes Islam.
..should have been I agree with Gromit
douglas, you are having a laugh, it wasn't just one memorial. If EDL did this then they should be ashamed beyond words.
em, that's a fine post, but addressing the fact that we do not know who did this but there are grounds for thinking it was not a Muslim, does not amount to defending Muslim fanatics or pretending they are not there
It is an odd "message" if it even is one, I would expect more along the lines of "die infidels die", or even a star and crescent. This smacks of unimaginative illiteracy to me, whether they are muslim, EDL or some other swivel eyed loon.

Not 'having a laugh' em10, but not reaching for the pitchfork and flaming torch either.
Save your outrage for when the vandal is caught.
// Why is it an odd message? It promotes Islam. //

Er, well no it doesn't, does it?

Like vandalising a jewish cemetry with swaztikas does not promote the far right.
Might have been a Sun 'reporter'.
i am outraged that anyone would do this, and i don't give a damn who knows it.
The fact that it simply says 'Islam', does not suggest to me that it's unlikely to have been done by Islamists. The kind of people who would do this are morons. I wouldn't expect a meaningful message to have been daubed by anybody.

I personally wouldn't jump to any conclusions at all about it. hopefully they'll catch the person.
