Would this type of thing be beneficial to children as young as five, or only create confusion?

what happens when the 5 year old had mummy and daddy,,,,,,,,,,,then has mummy and mummy or vice versa. must be confusing for the child.

Why not the best example? There is chopping and changing of partners in straight relationships too. When I said 'over the years' that was a considerable amount of time (35ish years)

Errrrrrrrrrm.....Heterosexual people have various partners and manage to bring up unconfused children.

Putting one's fingers in one's ears and closing one's eyes to same sex relationships will not make them go away you know...

By educating our children about the many different types of relationships people have, we will hopefully have a more understanding and accepting society in future.

in answer to your question, aog, yes, they should.

parents are parents, some hetero parents are crud at at, some singles are crud, some homosexual parents are crud. Some of the afore mentioned are good parents, loving, kind, supportive.

As parents of the same sex, they should be in school books, imagine a few years down the line, a 15 year old says, when looking back, oh, he/she could't have had any parents as they aren't in the school book.

Come to think of it, shouldn't school books just feature the kiddies and not their parents?

I'm actually glad this book is being encouraged, a least the adults of tomorrow will grow up with a proper understanding of different relationships instead of learning through dirty jokes, innuendoes and small minded adults.

I think we are in danger here of severely underestimating small children. In my experience, children just accept odd or different things and then just on with doing something more important.

At 5 years old I was more affected by things I saw on the news! I don't think I would of been interested in same sex couples. In fact never thought of anything odd about Morecombe and Wise being in bed together.
