Yes, I cannot argue with that, but in the early 70's the Consultants were doing well in Private practice, making money because the NHS was showing signs of imploding, but, on the horizon, Labour had someone who injected fear into the right wing doctors.......Neil Kinnock.
Intelligent, charismatic, left wing and determined to bring private medical practice to a halt. A different type of Labour leader and a woman who was going to kick the Private doctors out of the NHS........Barbara Castle.
There was panic in the mid 70's among the Private Doctors and meetings were held throughout the UK and with the help of banks, Private medicine, hitherto a" rag and bag" organisation, suddenly had to pull it's finger out to survive.
This it did and Neil Kinnock lost the election.
