Apart from the fact that the Islam religion could well be bad for one's general health as well as being extremely dangerous, was it wrong for a Muslim male teacher to describe this female business suit as 'abhorrent'?

/single sex education/

does that involve a magazine and a box of tissues?
@andy

No exceptions i my opinion. You are free to post yours. Meaningful debate would be good.

I pointed out that the Quran and Bible both explicitly promote sexism and other unsavory practices that literally incite some believers to their extreme actions.

When a so called moderate lends their support to the book as "the word of their god" then they are implicitly backing those attitudes and the people who carry out the actions commanded by the book.

Now you explain how someone explicitly supporting a book that encourages such actions should not bear some of the responsibility for those actions.
/Now you explain how someone explicitly supporting a book that encourages such actions should not bear some of the responsibility for those actions. /

Why are the actions of people with an extremist interpretation of a book the responsibility of other people who do not agree with that extremist interpretation?

Wasn't the Manson Gang inspired in their sadistic murders by Beatles songs (eg Helter Skelter)?

Were all Beatles fans therefore partly to blame?
AOG, do you think other religions are bad for people's health and are extremely dangerous? If so, why? If not, why this one? Please don't refer to rose- tinted spectacles, just confine yourself to fact and evidence to show that a whole religion fits your description.

Are you are Catholic? Catholic schools are every bit as restrictive. Or are you a Jew? Jewish schools are the same . This is a Muslim school. What do you expect the parents who choose this school to expect?

These institutions will not be closed down, expect a lot more of the same.

The Government's promotion of Free Schools will see an increase in Muslim faith schools, but they are not to be scrutinised by any local authorities. //

Michael Gove should scrap Free Schools and make them all work to the national curriculum.

Faith Schools should not be funded by the tax payer. //

Free schools and faith schools are ideal for parents who wish their children to be brought up in a particular faith. But that should not be funded by the tax payer. The tax payer should provide schools that give pupils an education. If parents want the additional mumbo jumbo they should pay for it themselves.

Only the middle classes will benefit, but that is nothing new. It will lead to a more fragmented, chaotic and not equal education system. I suspect it will be used by faiths to further their non inclusive teachings, which might be what AOG was alluding to.

On the whole, a very bad idea.

I suspect the main takers of the Free School money will be Christian Schools, closely followed by Jewish and muslim faiths. I do not consider the common denominator will be anti western, but something far worse - anti science. //

Gromit, have you got one where you predicted they'll fail because they're inherently prone to Health and safety issues?

I agree with that.

Helter Skelter - The Beatles

When I get to the bottom I go back to the top of the slide
Where I stop and I turn and I go for a ride
Till I get to the bottom and I see you again.

Do, don't you want me to love you
I'm coming down fast but I'm miles above you
Tell me, tell me, tell me, come on tell me the answer
You may be a lover but you ain't no dancer.

Helter skelter, helter skelter
Helter skelter.

Will you, won't you want me to make you
I'm coming down fast but don't let me break you
Tell me, tell me, tell me the answer
You may be a lover but you ain't no dancer.

Look out
Helter skelter, helter skelter
Helter skelter.
Look out 'cause here she comes.

When I get to the bottom I go back to the top of the slide
Where I stop and I turn and I go for a ride
Till I get to the bottom and I see you again.

Well do you, don't you want me to love you
I'm coming down fast but don't let me break you
Tell me, tell me, tell me the answer
You may be a lover but you ain't no dancer.

Look out
Helter skelter, helter skelter
Helter skelter.

Look out helter skelter
She's coming down fast.
Yes she is.
Yes she is

Do you see anything commanding anything Manson did?

Manson is a nutter and nutters can be inspired by anything but htere is nothing that would inspire any reasonable person to kill.

Meanwhile the Holy Books explicitly tell the faithful to kill people for failing to follow their commands. Most of the "sins" are not even crimes in modern societies.

Those who uphold these books as the word of God are therefore morally culpable for any who murder on those grounds.
Ludwig, :o)
beso, you should not have printed those lyrics.
I now have an overwhelming urge to gather up a chainsaw, several sharp knives and sneak into my neighbour's house.

On a serious note, I think ALL faith schools are abhorrent as indoctrination seems to be favoured over education
/Do you see anything commanding anything Manson did? /

No

But Manson did

hence your generalisation is 'ridiculous'
beso - I am an atheist, so i cannot speak with any degree of authority on the workings of the minds of those with faith.

However, I cannot really believe that a blanket generalisation that the Bible and Quran promote sexism and violence, and therefore followers of those faiths are to blame for actions carried out under its tennets.

I think Zuel's argument perfectly dismantles your own - accusing someone of following a 'message' and then attempting to make the author complicit is simply not a feasible stance.

Zeuhl

You really don't get it. Unlike Beatles lyrics, the holy books explicitly command followers, in black and white text, to murder people for breaking the laws they promote.

The so called extremists are fulfilling that command. The so called moderates have obviously turned away from the holy books yet they still claim them to be the basis of their faith. In doing so they implicitly support the actions of those who still treat the books as the word of a supreme being.
andy-hughes //I cannot really believe that a blanket generalisation that the Bible and Quran promote sexism and violence//

Perhaps you should read the books.

They explicitly command followers to kill those who break their "laws". They clearly and repeatedly assign inferior value to women.
andy-hughes //I think Zuel's argument perfectly dismantles your own - accusing someone of following a 'message' and then attempting to make the author complicit is simply not a feasible stance. //

It in no way dismantles my argument. It fails to even address it.

I note your use of quotes around the word 'message' as though what is written in the holy books needs to be interpreted in some way to incite violence.

This is a common misconception by those who have not read the books. I do wish those who stand up to support them would take the time to read what is actually written in them.

Any reasonable person would find these books abhorrent.
Indeed, if the Old Testament was written today it would be banned for inciting violence.
/Unlike Beatles lyrics, the holy books explicitly command followers, in black and white text, to murder people for breaking the laws they promote. /

If it is that explicit perhaps they should be prosecuted under our 'Incitement to commit something or other laws'

beso, do you know why that hasn't happened yet? Have you asked the CPS or your local Police station?

I would be interested to know.
"Or are you a Jew? Jewish schools are the same ."

really, do enlighten us

I cant recall there ever being problems reported about the handful of jewish schools.

now that this disgusting school has shut, hopefully theyll keep it shut and the children will go to schools tha will bring them up to follow and respect our culture in the UK...oh, hold on their parents dont want them being brought up as british following our culture and customs do they i forgot, most of them i'm guessing hate everything we stand for
beso

You're right about the Old Testament and almost certainly right about the Koran. Arguably Christians who don't stone gay men aren't living by the word of God as too are Muslims who don't join a holy war against the infedile - I suppose it's down to common sense and practicality - difficult to take part in a holy war and hold down a full time job.

And there's the added complication of your Sky box filling up with episodes of Eastenders before the war is over.

Nightmare.

This is the good thing about it sp. You can pretty much ignore the bits you don't agree with these days. It's called reinterpreting god's word. The trouble is some people are too stupid (or faithful to their god depending on how you see it) to do that.
