Apart from the fact that the Islam religion could well be bad for one's general health as well as being extremely dangerous, was it wrong for a Muslim male teacher to describe this female business suit as 'abhorrent'?

SP, in your post timed 15:11, you managed to actually stay on topic. Well done.

I know!

You were the only person to notice!!!
SP, It was a good post by the way re Lady Gaga's wardrobe. Much better, keep it up matey. :)
this woman "jane" took a job in a faith free school which, by its own admission, would be following the muslim ethos from top to bottom. what on earth was she expecting? did she not think she might be required to dress "modestly" in the manner of the dictates of the sharia?
AOG, is it true of the whole religion is worth asking. There are many millions of Muslims in the world. You choose atrocites committed by a few to prove to your satisfaction that Islam is extremely dangerous.

I take it that you have never studied statistics or probability.
Redvanman, you seem to know little of Judaism. A Jewish child will be taught to accept that women in schul (synagogue) are separated from the men; traditionally women sit upstairs and the men downstairs. Jewish schools will teach this too. There are other cultural and religious differences too, of course, including the belief that Jews are God's chosen people and that a child must have a correct Jewish name as well as their everyday one. And when was the last time you heard someone ask of another "Which tribe do you belong to?"

The point is that Jewish, Catholic and other religious schools will teach practices and beliefs which are alien to those who are Protestant Christians. Whether this is to be seen as harmful is debatable. But AOG likes to talk about Muslims, so we don't get to discuss the others.
hc you said: Naomi, it is NEVER acceptable to make personal, judgemental remarks to a colleague.

what things like:

Naomi - I dont think you should be hitting that child ?

no wonder I got screwed for harassment....
well, as an RC from an RC school,

and prot schoolboys (not many) and prot teachers (quite a few)
were definitely NOT expected to genuflect, swing rosaries, pray at the Angelus, or say every odder word, holy mary mudder of god.....

but it might have been a special school

those who say you are off topic

just DONT think laterally
Zeuhl //Will I agree to people enacting behaviours that conflict with my Values (murder, mutilation, segregation etc) No. Regardless of what book it's claimed to be inspired by. And that is where we need to focus our energies//

Precisely where do you mean by "that". What kind of action do you suggest?

For me, action includes pressuring the faithful to stop upholding their holy books as a source of divine inspiration and acknowledge the fact that they promote irrational prejudice and violence.

Apologists like Zeuhl and andy-hughes are part of the problem.
Beso, you have just set out a compelling reason for atheism. It is absurd that anyone should treat a holy book, written by men in different times to or own, as definitive.
Peter, you're being pendantic, again. I did say 'personal' remarks which most people would take to mean comments about ones appearance, dress sense, musical tastes, religion, choice of reading material, fastidious or lax habits, sexual orientation, gender, disabilities, abnormalities, choice of car - things that don't affect one's ability to do the job.

A teacher hitting a child is unprofessional and unlawful, not personal, and of course should be acted on.

//hc you said: Naomi, it is NEVER acceptable to make personal, judgemental remarks to a colleague.//

Unfortunately within the culture we’re talking about it is perfectly acceptable to make such remarks and therefore that man was at liberty to do so. This video gives a clear indication of the perception of western clothing. Watch from 9 minutes – just for a few seconds.

/// But AOG likes to talk about Muslims, so we don't get to discuss the

I talk about Muslims only when they are in the news, and that can almost be on a daily basis.
AOG - it is on an almost daily basis.

That is because you favour the right-wing press which loves to play to the paranoia of its Middle England readership who live in constant fear that their happy rich white lifestyle is being invaded by nasty foreigners who want to inflict their culture and religion on us by force.

You do have the option to take this apsect of their agenda for what it is -scare-mongering - and simply ignore it.

I do.
Accepted, AOG, but I hadn't noticed that Muslim faith schools were in the news almost on a daily basis .Are they? That may depend on your news source, of course, as it may with other stories involving some Muslim.
/Apologists like Zeuhl/

beso

I am not an apologist for Islam - far from it

It's not clear which bit of my rejection

/Will I agree to people enacting behaviours that conflict with my Values (murder, mutilation, segregation etc) No./

of behaviours particularly associated with Islam you don't understand...

because your question /Precisely where do you mean by "that"./

doesn't make any sense

Also, if you believe it is possible or practical or ethical for the State to attempt

/pressuring the faithful to stop upholding their holy books as a source of divine inspiration/

then i'm afraid you are deluded

How many religions can you think of that have been successfully stamped out like that short of wholesale genocide?

Oh dear having trouble with those rose tinted specs once again are we Fred, where the heck have I said or even posted that Muslim faith schools were in the news on a daily basis?
AOG - not burying your head?

I should think not - bizarre behaviour!
