BBC, ITV and Sky newsreaders are already wearing poppies and we haven't even had Halloween yet. Why does it run for weeks instead of one day?

I completely agree. There is time for me to lose at least 4 poppies between now and the 11th! It is much more poignant to celebrate Poppy Day closer to the actual date.
Do you mind ! I am wearing one now. They'll sell lots between now and the Day.They wouldn't sell that many on Remembrance Sunday or November the 11th, would they?
Nobody wants to be last and be accused of disrespect by folk trying to fill their day.
Point proved, JRB ! They'll sell you four poppies by Remembrance Sunday or the 11th, if you are a stickler for correctness (the French always use the 11th, whatever day of the week it falls on, so you would not be alone). It's only two weeks away, give or take a day.
maybe I'll put one on when I've done my Christmas shopping next week
What's Hallowe'en ? Is that the same as Guy Fawkes Night?
Halloween Oct 31guy fakers Nov 5
Fawkes....predictive thingy !
As the Poppy Appeal 2013 was officially launched today then no, it's not too early.
Unlike many shops, which are already selling Christmas merchandise. Now THAT's early.
less than two months to Christmas and some people have to post abroad.

Oxford St Xmas lights tend to be switched on shortly after Guy Fawkes.
Do you begrudge them the money ? Every extra day of advertising makes life a little easier for the disabled veterans. Enjoy Halloween , many of them can't.
I bought mines two weeks ago
no, plenty of people wearing them, i have mine bought this morning
JRB, i also lose them, but that is just the way of it, it's more cash for the RBL.
Christmas stuff has been in the shops and lights up since late sept early october, i find that very irritating, much more so than wearing a poppy a few days before the event
It is a fortnight to remembrance day.

The idea is to raise money.

14 days is about right. Neither too early or Too long.
Of course it's not too early . And what a ridiculous thing to suggest that they be on sale for one day only.

No-one is forcing you to buy more than one poppy anyway - or even one for that matter. You either choose to support our wounded veterans or you don't.

Why on earth does everything have to be well ahead of schedule making the year go so quickly.?
JJ on another of his fishing expeditions and some of you fell for it

predictable or what
I'll wear one once we're into november. I don't like the year to move on too quickly.
