If Nissan are saying this out loud ahead of time how many other big manufacturers are considering it privately?

Doesn't this give the lie to those who say we could just leave with no consequences?

regarding people threatening to leave the country, I'm still waiting for Andrew Lloyd Webber to get out, as he promised to do if Tony Blair was elected.
.......and when we offer them a deal they'll stay, you seem to be under the impression that business gives a rats ar5se about politics.

Business may not want us to leave the EU but only because they think they are financially better off in the EU. Once independent UK can change the game by offering all sorts of advantages to companies here. Jake and his ilk do all their calculations based on the status quo, not the possibilities.
Once free of the shackles of socialism UK will be well placed to offer the world of business very attractive deals to come/stay here.

I think TTT's comments are very revealing

//Business may not want us to leave the EU but only because they think they are financially better off in the EU.//

Yup Businesses think we are better off in the EU - Businesses that provide us with Jobs and drive the economy

Free of Socialism? - So British businesses prefer to be in the EU because they think they're better off there under Socialism?

How does that work exactly?

Muddlebrain (apt moniker) wants to be governed by people we elect - I suggest a complaint to their European MP - Oh Right!

Isn't the point here that the resistance is all founded on myths and misaprehensions.

there's some sort of vision that the EU is full of French and Germans Socialists (no Brits there at all apparently) Stealthilly robbing British people and giving our money to French farmers to grow straight bananas!

I'd understand these if we were a small country

The fact is that Britain and Germany have very similar political outlooks and are two of the three largest EU members.

If we actually grew up a bit and played a proper part Germany and Britain would dominate the EU and make it into a real political powerhouse.

"If we actually grew up a bit and played a proper part Germany and Britain would dominate the EU and make it into a real political powerhouse.
"
dream on......the eussr has only one aim and ulterior motive and that is to ultimately dominate and enslave the member countries...if you really think that they will let the UK which will ultimately just become a north western province in their master plan of a superstate/empire to dominate in any way or form then you really are seriously deluded and thats being polite....

Dominate and enslave, baz. Do you mean like California and Alaska are dominated and enslaved by a government in Washington DC ?
I hope they don't pull out, I bought a Nissan on the first of Oct. What would I do for parts ;-)
"Isn't the point here that the resistance is all founded on myths and misaprehensions. " - perhaps Isn't it true that the supporters of the EU are basically anti British and have no faith in our abilities and as such think the only way is to hand control over to a bunch of nepostitic foriegners? Is it not also true that they think that the UK would not change and adapt to any new circumstances?

"there's some sort of vision that the EU is full of French and Germans Socialists (no Brits there at all apparently) Stealthilly robbing British people and giving our money to French farmers to grow straight bananas! "

That is basically what we see, CAP/CFP?? We are one of the few net contributors, all we ever et is shafted. Baz is correct when he calls it the EUSSR.

"UK which will ultimately just become a north western province in their master plan of a superstate/empire"

How do you know this, baz?
LOL, tony. It'll be like having a de Dion Bouton !

Somebody might ask themselves why Japanese firms chose to build factories here in the first place and what the incentive is for keeping them. UKIP are fond of saying that , out of the EU, we could be like Norway. Quite.
I must say I have very mixed feelings about the EU but the hysterical claims made by some "antis" really don't help their case much. People who say that the EU is an "evil empire" or compare it to the pre-glasnost Soviet Union sound rather like ill-informed crackpot conspiracy theorists.

There are valid lines of criticism for the EU - e.g. the dual immigration policy that it commits us to, its level of democracy, and questions about its competence and ability to reach decisions.
The reason Norway is so prosperous is because it has a tiny population and loads of oil. That's not really a strategy we can replicate.
Tora, our British abilities are illustrated by the very industry of which we speak, the car industry. You will have noted , no doubt, how wonderful that was.

If anti-British means being against whatever brings this country benefits, that's fine.
" Do you mean like California and Alaska are dominated and enslaved by a government in Washington DC ? "

oh , sorry didnt realise we're talking about the USA i thought it was about the eussr

i know it the same way others on here say we wont !

even as we are they cant stop from foisting laws , dictats, banning things etc etc etc on us on a virtually daily basis....you really think theyll let up once they have complete control and dominance over this country !?...yeah right , dream on
well that was killed off by the unions in the 70s fred but that's another subject!

I'm sorry, I don't understand what this means.

" they cant stop from foisting laws , dictats, banning things etc etc etc on us on a virtually daily basis.."

It seems to me like most EU laws essentially replace legislation that our parliament would otherwise have to pass itself - mostly concerning trade. I don't find that very threatening.

More like Thatcher, but thats also a different subject.
No Mrs Thatcher was not in power for almost all of the 70s, she came in 1979 and nutered the unions to create the conditions we now have, that's why Nissan et al are here.
Baz,we weren't talking specifically of the USA, we are talking of the "eussr", which suggests total ownership by the state of all means of production, as in the USSR. I do not see the similarity between communism and capitalism. I do, however see a similarity between capitalist federalism, as in the USA, and the EU as seen by its founders (an ambition yet to be realised, but evidently feared by opponents of the EU). Now, how do the words 'enslave' and 'dominate' apply to the states of the US and their government?
