It's that time of yer again and plod will be ramping up (quite rightly) to nab those drink driving.

Now if you go out to the pub and drive home you clearly should expect everything to be thrown at you, but just how should we deal with those who are caught often many hours and a good sleep later? How are people to know when they are safe?

Should we introduce a mandatory carrying of a breath analyser ? Perhaps vehicles should not start if the driver cannot pass a breath test?

anyone got any good ideas, as I am not convinced just prosecuting people is the answer to this problem?

Umm, I got an electronic breathalyser off the web. I know know what too much booze feels like so don't drink too much, simple.
I drink with him, I see it. It's usually over about 3 hours, He's a big heavy guy. At one point the police breathalysed him regularly, so he knows now what he can drink. I passed on 5 pints of cooking bitter myself about 20 years ago.
there was a DD test done by a bike mag years ago. They drank a pint rode round some cones did a breathalyser X n. Their balance went long before they failed the breath test.
When you get pulled over the police ask if you've had anything to eat or drink in the last 20 minutes.
TTT...cooking bitter ? Not sure what this is. I am going to my regular CAMRA meeting tonight, so it would nice to know !
cooking bitter is the weak quaffing ale. Often known as best bitter.
On a slightly different note, does anybody have any idea how accurate these test yourself breathalyzers are ? They are remarkably cheap on ebay. I hardly every drink and drive, only ever having 1 pint if I do but as a CAMRA member, I don't drink p*ssy fizzy lagers, so it might be a good idea to keep one in the glove compartment !
I know somebody who failed the breath the morning after and was banned.

I also know that you can't drink 5 pints of Stella in the pub and pass a breath test on the way home.
Thanks TTT...al is now clear. I shall use my Bus pass tonight and partake of whatever my local Wetherspoons have on offer, but it is unlikely to be under 4.5...not cooking bitter I take it !

Curry and a pint for £5.25...can't beat it !
How long will you Be there mikey?
I see it many times a week HC.
Home in bed by 23.00 these days TTT !
Mikey how long will you be drinking at the meeting?
Are there any government approved breathalysers available? I'd be a bit dubious about buying them on ebay.
About 1 hour in the meeting and the rest in the Bar. Not sure in which direction this questioning is going TTT ? I am more than happy to continue but that bright light you are shining in my eyes is beginning to hurt.
The best way of dealing with this problem, is education.

Also, don't drink the night before, maybe a glass or two before 10pm if you're up at 5/6am.

I believe it takes 2 hours per unit of alcohol to disperse. (But what is a unit, one glass of wine, how large? a pint of beer, what strength?)
ok so if you are there say 2 hours you can have 3-4 pints of cooking ale with no problem.
I also know that you can't drink 5 pints of Stella in the pub and pass a breath test on the way home.

4 years experience as a Royal Military Policeman and 14 as a Special Constable lead to agree wholeheartedly with that statement.
But TT, I shall be travelling back and forth using this marvelous Bus Pass that we get when we are 60, here in the glorious People Republic of Wales. I may have more beer if I want ! I might even have a pint or two of one of the Winter Warmers that they will tonight ! I hope they have some Jennings Sneck Lifter, one of my favourites.
Do they have snecks in wales? I thought they only lived in Tyneside.
