It's that time of yer again and plod will be ramping up (quite rightly) to nab those drink driving.

Now if you go out to the pub and drive home you clearly should expect everything to be thrown at you, but just how should we deal with those who are caught often many hours and a good sleep later? How are people to know when they are safe?

Should we introduce a mandatory carrying of a breath analyser ? Perhaps vehicles should not start if the driver cannot pass a breath test?

anyone got any good ideas, as I am not convinced just prosecuting people is the answer to this problem?

Respect Gromit, respect !...Old Tom is 8.5% !
To reiterate my original point - the entire ethos of drinking and driving is one of getting as close to the legal limit as possible, without goinv over it - which is the driving equivalent of Russian roulette.

I understand that this culture has grown up because drinking was established for hundreds of years before people had to assimilate driving cars into the process.

Nonetheless, for me, it is a simple mature socially concious decision that if you are going to drink some alcohol, you undertake not to put other people at risk by driving your car.

I know this will never ever happen, because it is socially ingrained, and no government would commit political suicide by even suggesting such a measure.

But I do think that it is a responsible way for society to behave - given its puririent attitudes to drugs other than alcohol.

Yes I am an alcohol-facist.
I don't understand why people don't know the rules and the down-time - or is it just bravado, the "it won't happen to me" mentality?
