If these jobs can't be done by foreigners, and our British unemployed can't or won't do them either, how are the vacancies going to be filled ?
It is ridiculous to use the word appeasement -which has a very specific dictionary term- in the context of modern day trade and political relations with what are currently our partner trading countries in the EU. It is both hyperbolic and inaccurate.
It is also tiresome to see the same tropes being used, relics of WWII with the talk of "Third Reich Incarnate".
It is repugnant to see posters here labelled by those wrapping themselves in the flag as being traitorous or unpatriotic; it is also wrong and stupid to claim that political views from a differen part of the political spectrum that differ from your own are automatically unpatriotic or traitorous.

ok you have a low paid job, you cannot get anyone to do, you raise the wages until you do. OK, now rather than raising the wages you can get cheap foriegn labour so you do that instead. Now why aren't our own dole dossers taking these jobs? because the money is no more than their benefits. So 2 possible answers, 1) Lower the benefits 2) stop foriegn labour entering. employers will then have to pay more to tempt our own off the dole. Simples!
what if those coming are qualified, and we have same qualified on dole, who gets the job, the one who applies, but what if the Brit has applied and is getting nowhere, yet the job goes to the incomer, is that right, fair.
shouldn't it be British jobs for British workers as Gordon Brown said
by the way have you ever got a job through a job centre, because i never did, everything i ever looked for was not available, or the cases were totally out of date. I found the whole experience of being in a job centre totally dispiriting and demoralising.

people who don't live in the capital, or other big cities may not be affected quite so much, but this is not a small problem

Not sure pointing out the law makes them anti British. It seems foolish to try and promise something that is illegal. If the coaltion are not able to deliver because the law does not permit it, then the Lib Dems will look foolish.
This is the Lib Dems trying to disassociated themselves from a policy that looks destined to go tits up.

"i don't think there is as much laziness as some think"
the same was being said in the 70's 80's and to a degree the 90's
I recall firends who tried to get jobs with various councils but couldnt...why ?...becasue they were being overlooked by the councils who were following their leftist policies and filling the jobs with blacks and asians to make up there quotas

one thing is that there are ads in foreign papers for workers for UK, that may not be on offer to UK citizens, one chap said that he only ever employed Polish workers, and advised in Poland for them to work here.,
And the same applies surely to many businesses say in the restaurant trade, where only those nationalities need apply. Wrong but it happens, so those jobs won't go to those "Lazy" British. I can only say going on experience of recent visits to the job centres that they are still as depressing - and full of every nationality you can think of.

The difficulty with your answer emmie is that, sadly, many of our unemployed, especially the long-term unemployed are unskilled and unqualified. Many of them also lack a good basic education. Many of them turn up to job interviews in trainers, with baseball hats on and rolled up cigarettes behind their ears ! Add to that, they may be financially better off not working, and you have a classic example of why immigrants are like manna from heaven for British companies.
Put yourself in the position of an employer. You need someone to fill the vacancy of, say a fork-lift truck driver. Do you take on the unqualified Brit, who will need training and maybe hasn't worked in a generation, or do you take on the keen Pole, who is fully qualified and can start work next Monday morning ?
Not all vacancies will fall into this category, I agree but many do. I am at present in Cornwall and the local vegetable growers go to Poland once a year and hold recruiting sessions. Without seasonal workers, the fruit and veg would rot in the ground, because our own unemployed won't touch the jobs with a bargepole. I believe it to be the same in other parts of the country. We can survive without fresh daffodils perhaps but doing without potatoes, carrots and cabbages is another thing altogether.
TTT has given part of the answer, in that we should consider if wages are adequate and benefit levels are maybe too high. Also, should the long term unemployed be allowed to continually turn down work, even IF they would be better off on benefits ?
Large areas of British life would suffer if immigrants were not here to work, like our Hospitals and more importantly, home care of old people.
But it hasn't always been like this. My brother had to go to Germany to work as a bricklayer, along with 10,000's of other Brits in the 1990's. He was glad of the work, my sister-in-law was glad of the money sent by cable every week, and his German employers were delighted with his efforts. The tables have turned now but they could just as easily change back again, with an endless trail of white Transit vans going over the Channel every Sunday afternoon in an easterly direction.
You have said that our Employment Offices are a waste of time when looking for work. I couldn't agree with you more ! When I was unemployed for the first and last time on my life in 2003, I too found them to depressing and degrading places. But of course, these offices are not really about finding people work, its about the administration of social security benefits.
But I still found work despite the dubious efforts of the Job Centre staff. I got off my ar*e and asked around everywhere. We had a large Tesco being built at the time, the size of a medium Airport Terminal, but Tesco didn't advertise the jobs in the Job Centre about 1 mile away...they took applications on the internet. As it happens I didn't take the job that Tesco offered but took something else instead.
So, lets stop knocking the immigrants and look inwards at why we have the situation we have.

emmie ...I was speaking to one on Saturday night in the village pub where I am on holiday. He is somebody I know quite well. My local friends know him even better and they have no reason to doubt his word on this subject.
In the past he has put the jobs in the local Job Centre, put ads in "The Cornishman", and even leafleted local council estates but has had almost no response. Certainly not enough to satisfy his needs. He has gone to Poland now for the last 3 years, every September and he is delighted with the response. He sees workers that he has used in the past and they come with other members of the family. He is a very down-to-earth chap and very plain speaking ( as are a lot of the Cornish ! )
This story about Eastern European agricultural workers working in our fields is hardly new emmie, and I am surprised that you doubt the truth of the story. I seem to remember the there was a Panorama program on a year or two back, where the BBC took some local unemployed in Norfolk
( I think ) and arranged for them to have trial employments by local firms, one of which was an Indian Restaurant ! The young chap that did the curry placement was even offered lunch, on the house, after he was sacked on his second day. All the Brits failed for some reason or other.
I wish it was different emmie, I really do, but what are these employers supposed to do...let their stuff rot in the fields ?
