Was There Need For The Italians To Apologise?

Oh dear how much more ridiculous can these racist accusations get?
Surely there is nothing wrong in featuring a mega star such as Brad Pitt on the poster of a film in which he stars in, regardless of the fact that he appears less in the film than a black actor?
In defence of the Italians, I would say that perhaps they are not so PC aware as we and the Americans seem to be.

Nothing to do with PC or racism. The Star is an unknown and his face is unlikely to sell the film. It was Nothing to apologise for. If he becomes famous, then I am sure he will feature prominantly on future posters.

I am proud of being British, nothern, etc. but not of being white - not not proud but just not an issue - I did think it was an odd comment too. I am proud of elements of my cultural background, history, etc. and yes they are no doubt different for me as I am white, but cannot get my thinking round the notion of being actually proud of being white, without their being an implicit judgement on other races and ethnicities.
Talking of Chewit Ejiofors? His real name is Colin Williams.
He was on the radio saying that when he told his mother his new name she burst into tears. This, he explained, was because she didn't understand his 'connection' to his African roots and despite explaining, to her, that she had lumbered him with a 'slave name'.
Personally, I rather suspect she burst into tears because she couldn't believe her son had grown up to be such a prize, pompous ass/arse.

I am proud to be white because and also not ashamed to be white.
But to answer your question more fully, because strangely you seem to have some kind of strange obsession over me answering this particular question for reasons only known to yourself.
I am proud to be white, because I was born white, I am proud of my parents who also happened to be white, but who sadly are no longer with us, I am proud of what my white European country has achieved taking into account that it is just a very small island in comparison to other much larger countries, I am proud of my heritage, my culture, my country's tolerance.
But then these are just my own personal reasons for being white, I would assume if you happened to ask the same question of why a none white person was proud to be as they were, they would of course have their own personal reasons for being as proud as they are.
By the way I was fortunate also to be born in England, and that is also a reason for me being proud to be English.

/// ANOTHEOLDGIT, since you had no choice in the colour of your skin, would have been proud if the colour had been black? ///
Well I would presume that the answer to your rather ridiculous question would be to say of course, do you think that when I was old enough to talk I would say "eh what's all this my skin is black, I am not proud to be black I want to be proud to be white"?
Absolutely ridiculous, how on earth can you ask "what if I had been black", also just as ridiculous to ask a black person "what if you had been white"?
I can see now why Chewn, OILhead and yourself are so keen to get a response from me saying that I am proud to be white.
Take this excerpt of Oilhead;
/// without their being an implicit judgement on other races and ethnicities. ///
It is that old overused but this time slightly covered up accusations of racism.

That's why you get asked questions about pride, AOG.
I am British, and also English. I see no reason to feel proud because my country has achieved great things; I had no part of that, and cannot claim any credit it for it. To do so would be as absurd as feeling proud because Chelsea won the FA Cup or any other trophy in their recent history ,or to be so when, as I hope they do, they win more.Yet, I am a paid up supporter of the club and it was my local club, but I have made no contribution to any success.
The same applies to my being white. It is not my doing that I am white.

Well don't say I didn't try, but that is all you are going to get, because I have no experience in teaching persons who are not smart enough to reason things out for themselves.

It would seem that I am not the only one who is proud of their colour.

Not possible for me I'm afraid, I will just have to carry on being 'proud to be white'.

AOG, I am a a 'proud chap'. I take pride of what I achieve; I was be proud to secure an acquittal when I have shown witnesses to be dishonest (it has happened) or to get a conviction when the defendant is good at fooling juries.
But explain why you are proud of things which you did nothing to contribute to ,either in the past or currently,. It would be just like me feeling proud or superior because the local club, to which I have paid money, wins or has won something. What do you see as the difference ? And no, it is not obvious. It's no good you trying the line of "Well, if you can't see it, I can't explain it"

I can give a more pertinent example. I inherited a farm , a yacht and its mooring in the South of France, several businesses, a Bentley, and much else. I am not proud of owning these things. My late father might have been; he's the one who started with nothing and made it all possible.
Should I be proud because of what he achieved, which I inherited ? No. And neither should you, AOG, be proud of what you inherited, your race, your colour, or your nationality. They were by chance, not by anything you did.

Well unlike you who is prepared to tell us all about your achievements, your yacht with its mooring in the South of France, your inherited farm with room for a pony, several businesses, and Bentley, I tend to be a little more modest with the information that I give out on a site such as this, but even so I do not wish for you or anyone else for that matter to tell me what I should be proud of.
Still no criticism on blacks being proud, or does this type of thing only apply if on happens to be white?

Fred - aren't there different sorts of pride? I have a personal pride in my own achievements, another sort of pride in the achievements of my nearest and dearest, and then a pride in some of the qualities and attributes of being British - notwithstanding some of the discussions on AB, I think that we are still generally a tolerant, innovative and caring nation with a great sense of justice and fair play - which are all qualities which make me proud to be British although I cannot take any credit in instilling or developing those qualities.
