I mean really this does demonstrate level of stupidity and contempt that we really should have a more severe punishment for.

He is travelling on a single carriageway road with double white lines (solid line on his side) so there are obviously hidden dips or bends. Towards the end of the footage there are oncoming vehicles who are clearly seen slowing down and pulling towards their nearside alarmed at what they had seen heading towards them.
If you cannot see the danger to other road users by this stupidity, Bill, please let us all know where you live so that we can avoid the area. We may not then bump into you whilst you’re driving round steering with your knees !!

Not clear at all; neither is their alarm (though I have not the power to read their mind evidently granted to other posters here). The driver could be closer to his own nearside no doubt, but is driving steadily in the middle of the lane, even when the road curves. He claimed to be in control of his car; there's nothing in that video to show he wasn't.
Agree with BungalowBill: stupid, not dangerous. And yes, you don't need two pedals to brake in an automatic.
I find this thread rather strange coming from TTT, who has repeatedly claimed that speed limits are stupid and good drivers like him ought to be able to ignore them. The driver in the video no doubt feels the same way.

No, I could not say they were alarmed, jno. But I can think of no other reason why they should be slowing down and pulling to the nearside on a clear road (clear but for the idiot, that is).
The driver of the blue car clearly pulls away from the centre line. However, whether or not we agree on that minor detail does not matter. How anyone can suggest it is not dangerous to drive at 60mph on a busy public road with no hands on the steering wheel for a prolonged period (the report says half a minute - more than half a mile) is quite simply beyond me.

ludwig: because it could have become dangerous if anything had gone wrong. But it didn't. He even negotiated the curve without visible difficulty.
I suggested earlier a more appropriate charge would be something like driving without care and attention, but don't know if such an offence exists. There are plenty of examples of truly dangerous driving - pensioners tootling along the M1 on the wrong side of the road and so on. This isn't in that league.

You could say that about any dangerous thing such as driving the wrong way up the motorway, or walking down the high street juggling live hand grenades.
It wasn't a stupid thing that could have become dangerous. It was a dangerous thing that could have become lethal.
If he'd been going down a deserted one-way street at 3 in the morning, I'd probably classify it as stupid, but the problem this it that the road appears to be busy, and he's drives past oncoming traffic in this fashion, putting others lives at risk.
Anyway, I think the court got it about right.

Some people just enjoy a good a debate NJ, so much so they'll frequently take the side opposing the bleedin' obvious, just for the hell of it.

Another way of defining dangerous driving is to ask whether , on seeing the driving , you would think "Goodness, that's dangerous!". This passes that test. Whether the driving results in injury or damage is immaterial to the primary question.
As to penalty, it seems about right. Stupid though this action was, it is towards the lower end of dangerous driving.

I just like to see the language - and offences - used in a graduated way, ludwig.
You think 'dangerous' starts somewhere higher up the scale than in a deserted road in the middle of the night. I think it starts somewhere lower on the scale than driving on the wrong side of the M1. I think this driver's offence is further from my proposed end of the scale than yours' you presumably think otherwise.
And as is common, you get personal in your response.

he was evidently using two. I notice that even you only accuse him of stupidity, which is my feeling also. I have no problem with him being banned, I just think they should reserve the offence of dangerous driving for those driving dangerously.
A question: have you ever noticed how many hands drivers have on the wheel? When I'm driving, I just look at the oncoming cars themselves. The only reason I'd look at the driver is if the car was moving erratically, which this one wasn't. So I can safely say I could have driven past this guy and never even noticed where he had his arms.
