I was taught to concentrate on road conditions, traffic conditions, and the likely movement of vehicles in my immediate vicinity, and at least 200 yards down the road. If I started to look at what people driving the cars were doing, I'd soon be distracted. I don't make eye contact with other drivers.

But perhaps that's what makes you an advanced driver, gness, and the rest of us are just ordinary acceptable drivers. My sister's advanced, and she taught me to commentate on what I see when driving and what might be anticipated - but I've never seen her looking at other drivers. I'm with chewn on this one - drivers should be concentrating on the road, not each other.

Boxy...you seem to be misunderstanding.....it's not looking AT other drivers. It's using every part of your vision and awareness to see and be aware of other drivers.....I can't see how you can drive and be so unaware of what is close to you and how they may react and behave.

People on here have commented on the age of drivers....whether they are using mobile phones...etc....so I can't be the only person who knows there is someone driving the car coming towards me.

When I see another motorist using a mobile phone I tend to be extra vigilant and assume they will not be in full control of their vehicle and consequently unable to effectively signal or manoeuvre.

I think we're talking about the same thing, gness, but using different terminology - it's awareness of other vehicles, pedestrians, people pushing babies out in front of you, cyclists - everything. For "drivers" I read "cars" - if a car is wobbling not in a straight line, I assume the driver's on the phone or otherwise distracted, and hang back. I don't just get in the car and drive, irrespective of what's going on around me.
