Excellent distinction Chewn - hats off!
i believe Scargill was bad for the miners, the unions, and a big old hypocrite, for not just trying to buy the flat under the right to buy rules, after all he was an overt critic of her and everything she stood for, so presumably that includes the oft criticised right to buy, and as i have pointed out, it wasn't just about trying to buy his flat, if you read my wiki
piece.
not perhaps the ultimate hypocrisy, however if you are a lamb that lies down with the lion, be prepared to be eaten.
steve, as i pointed out. Don't tell, won't tell, naughty Mr Scargill
> The 76-year-old told the BBC that had he succeeded in buying the flat he would subsequently have transferred its ownership to the union.

He said this would have saved the union a substantial amount of money and provided it with an asset. <

so he was thinking long term for the benefit of the union
Steve.5 > This government's reinvigorated right to buy is helping build new affordable homes and gives something back to families who have worked hard, paid their rent and played by the rules." <

you can't move near me for these cheap affordable properties to rent
Yeah, right Dr.

Does anyone know how to get rid of pigs flying over my house?

TTT, certainly a big hypocrite, 'ultimate' maybe not as there are plenty of champagne socialists in the queue for that accolade !
T3

Your claim that Scargill's behaviour is the 'ultimate in Hypocrisy (acy?)'

would be more persuasive if you could post a link to Scargill condemning the 'right to buy' policy.
DF, now that is some kind of joke, he has had the place for a long time, had he not?
emmie others got a large payout arthur arranged to have the flat

sorted as they say up here

well zeuhl, he may not have condememed the policy specifically but he has many times Condemed MrsT and all she stands for so I'd say that encompasses the right to buy adequately.
it wasn't his to buy though was it, the NUM had been paying the rent... lol
TTT is right, he was an outspoken opponent of Mrs T, brought down one government before and was no lover of tories, do you honestly think that right to buy wasn't discussed, thought of as hated Mrs T's flagship policy, and he didn't just try and buy it now, but back in 1993, ho ho ho
emmie >
the NUM had been paying the rent. <

as an allowance , i am sure mi5 or was mi6 would have found out when trying to dig some dirt up on him
Brought down one government before? Not Scargill. Joe Gormley led the strike that also resulted in the fall of ted Heath. but that strike was called for proper union reasons, not as an attempt to bring down government. Gormley knew what he was doing - unlike Scargill.
/but he has many times Condemed MrsT and all she stands for so I'd say that encompasses the right to buy adequately. /

Not really.

If a Tory condemned a Labour government (and everything they stood for) would we assume they wouldn't avail themselves of a personal benefit that they and others in a similar position were entitled to, just because it was the result of a Labour policy?

For example, would current Tory recipients of certain Benefits introduced or increased by Labour policies by hypocrites, because they also condemn the Labour ex-government's profligacy?
sorry

confusing typo

For example, would current Tory recipients of certain Benefits introduced or increased by Labour policies BE hypocrites, because they also condemn the Labour ex-government's profligacy?
