I think that might be a very good idea naomi, having toured the incredible Vatican Museums recently ! But he is still entitled to voice his opinion in this affair. He isn't the first to do so and he won't be the last. He is a public figure and shouldn't be muzzled. Present and previous Archbishops of Canterbury have done likewise.

You and I have an opinion on whether the current program of welfare reform is working or not and neither of us are remotely afraid to say so.......why can't Cardinal Vincent ?

I haven't worked for ten years. The benefit system confuses me
. I am in receipt of a non means tested benefit (ESA) in my case it replaced Incapacity Benefit.

I have experience of the benefit system from both sides. I spent 24 years working within the system. The system needs to be simplified so that people understand what they can claim for.

Alas the benefit system has to meet the needs of people is so many different situations. It would very difficult to change the system without someone losing out.

The majority of people on benefits are normal, pleasant people. The rest are the sort that you would cross the road to avoid.

The only good thing about my working as a civil servant was getting my occupational pension at the age of 40.
