Should he now be 'fired'?

What I can't understand, this has been his profile picture on Twitter since September but it is said that it has only recently been brought to light.

His excuse was "I am running for election this year and I think the opposition have picked it up and are trying to summon up some dirt about it".

LazyGun - "I can only speak from personal experience here, but I know 2 judges sort of socially, both of whom shoot regularly - clay pidgeons and hunting mostly, but one attends a firing range too - and both have probably got photographs of them with a gun in hand. Are you saying that neither of these guys should be considered suitable material for being a...

I change my view! it must be right if a local labour councillor is saying it about a Lib Dem councillor!

He is entitled to his opinion; I would disagree. I see nothing in that picture that says the man should automatically resign as a magistrate. If on the other hand he was shooting those people who came up before him, that would be an entirely different matter, and I would definitely agree that he should resign his post.
I just clicked on this and my first thought was "Wow he looks just like a terrorist"!

/// No, it really is not. But hey, if you want to wallow in your prejudices, that is fine by me. ///

They are not prejudices just being honestly wise.

You would be perfectly ail right about things if you happened to see someone posing with a gun in your local park, or saw someone shifty coming towards you on a dark night would you?
AOG, do you think that the pose with the rifle was deliberately staged to appeal to radical jehadists? Would they put aside their murderous plotting to go out and try to get someone elected?

No, the one thing they are not is being honestly wise, but hey, if thats the way you wish to rationalise your prejudice, that's up to you.

And there is a massive, huge difference between a photo of a man posing with an assault rifle over in India and the notion of seeing someone in a local park posing with an assault rifle. And someone shifty? Is this guy "shifty" then? Just on the strength of a photo?

Is it just because I chose to criticise someone who was not white, because this is the impression you are giving out.

I cannot help that the councillor/magistrate happened to have a dark skin or the fact that he chose to pose with a rifle, had he happened to have been white and in the same office as this person holds, I and the media would still have taken issue with it.

Or are you naive enough to think that they wouldn't have?

LoL Naive! :) The only reason it has made the national press and you have decided to post it is precisely because of the colour of his skin. In yours and the DMs eyes - Brown skin+assault rifle = terrorist.
But that's just what he looks like in that photo !!
To you, Viv. To me, he looks like a bloke with a gun indulging in some juvenile posturing.
No sorry, still looks like a terrorist !
Lets all hope for the sake of objective justice that you are not a magistrate or anything then Viv :)
Whatever LG !
Talk to the hand, because the face ain't listening , Viv ( see, I can do vaguely contemporary slang too!) :)

I want my judiciary to judge a book by its contents, not its cover. Unless its a style contest and its a really stylish cover...
^
LOL

indeed, or in counter terrorism...

sorry i didn't spot the terrorists, they didn't have starey eyes or camo jackets

I've got some posey pictures like that from a business trip to Russia a few years ago when we had a day out firing AK47s and heavier stuff at some old fridges.

But then I'm not asian-looking

Go on I'll let you have the last say, I'm going now .................

No, changed my mind, he STILL looks like a terrorist to me !!!
There, you've got Zehul sticking up for you as well ........... !
@Viv heh - and I am still glad you are not a member of our judiciary. I want objective, measured justice, not - "ere, stick 'im in the pokey cos he looks shifty and all"
watch it viv or i'll send you one of my scary pictures :-)
I'm with Viv. He does look like a terrorist. One would have hoped a man in his position would have had more sense.
oh come on..................hes very naïve to post that picture, no wonder the opposition have taken advantage of it.
