I kind of feel a bit sorry for old Rolf. No doubt there is truth behind most of the victims but there's always some that will crawl out from under a rock and smell fame and fortune. All Rolf would need to have done is put his hand round their shoulder for a photo shot 20 years ago and now the story is warped to suit.

anne;//do you believe RH to be totally innocent ?//
Probably not totally, but the severity of the punishment is out of all proportion to the 'crimes'.
I believe the testimonies and motivation of some of these complainants have not been sufficient scrutinized, by some of 'les tricoteuses' on this thread.

Khandro, if he had been found guilty under current charge levels, then he would have been looking at between 7 to 9 years. Given when the offences were committed, he could only be charged under the law in action back then, common assault, in effect. They didn't have the charge of 'penetrative assault' that would have seen him nailed on the higher tariff.
Bit like his fellow australian who put his hand up my skirt many years ago when I was a waitress.Luckily I was just about old enough and wise enough to tell him where to get off ..or else .The beer in his lap helped ...lol
But very young girls don't have the experience of the wider world and RH preyed on very young girls .He deserves to be locked up .Dirty old ***.
I feel sorry for his wife who is obviously in very poor health .The shame of it all must be awful for her and I bet she won't see her gold digger daughter for dust.

Khandro, then we agree to disagree because he got justice in my book and probably got off on the light side in comparison to, say, his fictitious son enacting out the same deeds in the last decade. He's therefore very lucky, actually - but then, I understand, Oz want him back for potential charges there.
5 years, 9 months, he could be out in 33 months......

In Harris's era, being a "dirty old man" didn't carry the same implications as it does today. Neither can it be fully understood by men with little contact with nubile young women what it must be like to have them under your spell. If the present prosecution of a few clapped out old men achieves nothing else it should clarify the current ground rules on this type of activity.

/// thought that no-one would believe them anyway if they were to come forward and make accusations against a "national treasure". ///
If I was hurting as much as some of his victims said they were, I would have come forward to accuse my abuser no matter who they were. How does anyone know nobody will believe them if they do not try?
And even if they do not believe them at least the seeds have been sown.

I also find your rudeness against jordy tottally unacceptable, he is merely voicing his opinion, and he should be allowed to do so without 'Abuse' even if you yourself disagree with his interpretation of events.
I was the first to ask this "I cannot understand why this poor woman endured all this for 16 years, why didn't she just keep away from him"?
And although plenty have spent their time condemning Harris, and in the circumstances quite rightly so, but they have all failed to explain why this woman carried on putting herself at risk by continuing to be close to Harris for 16 years?
