I put this question for discussion because he seems to me to be whipping up a lot of anti-English feeling.

I think you'll find that media coverage and reporting of the referendum differs between Scotland and the rest of the UK.

I don't think he's stirring up anti-English feeling. If some Scots feel that way towards the neighbours, I doubt Alex Salmond put the idea in their heads.

The whole referendum is becoming nasty, petty and ignorant on both sides.
There has been a lot of anti-Scottish comments on AB lately but to call the posters racist is a bit extreme.

I don't believe that there is, or has been, much anti-English feeling in Scotland.
There will always be isolated incidents and these will be published in the press.

? megalomaniac
Not racist, that's too strong but possibly an xenophobist.
No, just a wassock, full of his own importance.
Salmond is what Salmond says, he is a nationalist, which does not equate to racist.
That's not the issue post-Thursday though - who and what is going to be done to reconcile the community differences and family splits as to 'yes and no' - whatever the result? We're getting a lot of reports down here about the deep rifts and divisions being created by this referendum, worthy of a Rangers/Celtic sentiment.
As Cornwall is as probably as far as you can get from Scotland without getting your feet wet, I am puzzled as to why people there should be concerned. I only live 60 miles away and I couldn't give a monkey's which way the vote goes.
If you don't care Obiter, you clearly have not understood the importance of the referendum vote.
I think it's far too easy to say that the Yes voters all hate the English and are voting just to spite them.

But then if you are watching the BBC reporting, I can see why...
Dangerous self-server
The reason I say that is because I know that whatever the result I shall be no worse off. If the result is 'Yes', then I may be better off but I don't know. A complete charade and waste of time and good money. If Salmond had half the balls that Thatcher had he would have done an Ian Smith (remember him?) and declared UDI; and devil take the hindmost.
Ah !...I was wrong...you now clearly show that you understand everything that there is to know about this subject...UDI...why any of us think of that !
Obiter, you can be quite a numpty at times - part of my higher education was in Scotland so naturally I do have an interest......
as you are in news Derek, do you have a link re salmond being racist and to whom ?
Thank you for the compliment, Mikey, much appreciated. By the way, I apologise for assuming that you were Welsh, such are the exigencies of life that some people are forced to live in surroundings other than those they would desire. I should know, I once lived in a cardboard box in the middle of the A1.
The word 'racist', like the words 'xenophobe' and 'offence', is bandied around far too freely these days, usually in an effort to silence opposing opinions. Racist is not a word I would use to describe him.
I am quite happy here in Wales Obiter, although I will admit to a longing to retire to West Cornwall, although I would miss the Cawl I suppose. But they do have marvelous Pasties.
Obiter.........are you looking forward to having Trident 60 miles away?
xenophobia - a fear or mistrust of things foreign or alien. That is not racism....not sure how you link 'offence' into this, naomi. Care to elucidate further?
