Love or hate him, the morbid fascination of the general public will ensure that it will more than pay his legal costs, particularly as I should imagine laws governing such activity would be fairly lax in SA.

It'll be similar but morally no different to the book deal that Amanda Knox signed, from which I gather she made a tidy sum.

Amanda Knox was found not guilty on appeal and released, chil; Pistorius is culpable and found guilty - that's a big difference.

Regarding grumpy's question, if you go on holiday to SA you'll find everyone is nice. I know the country is corrupt and violent, but most people in general are great.

Not really a big difference DTC. Both have been found not guilty of murder in a court of law yet large sections of the general public in various countries believe both are indeed guilty of murder.

Either way, both are percieved to have 'got away with it'.

Furthermore DTC, consider this:

The second appeal trial of Knox and Sollecito began in September 2013, with Knox remaining in the US. On January 30, 2014, the court returned guilty verdicts, sentencing her to 28 years in prison.
I've a feeling she'll not be returning voluntarily to Italy to serve her sentence.

I agree with you on the very last point - however she was not prosecuted on any form of manslaughter, whereas OP was and found guilty. That is a big difference. It's also extremely hard to compare cases across international boundaries when it comes to jurisprudence and that makes the association between the two cases somewhat tenuous at the outset.....

It boils down to a couple of basic facts which are what I said:

Vast swathes of people believe them guilty and that justice has not been served.
Both will now (abhorrently IMHO) make a lot of money by recounting their personal story, mostly due to the public's fascination.

I think he will go to prison. The judge found him irritating so that might sway the sentencing .
