I think that children should be taught that ANY form of bullying is wrong - and that would automatically encompass bullying over sexual orientation.

The notion that orientation bullying is a 'special case' is flawed.

By definition, any bullying depends on preying on someone who is seen as different for what ever reason, and is thus singled out for hostility by inscure children who lack self awareness and self respect.

Bullying a person for being ginger or short or having ppor hygene is as invalid as bullying someone for their orientation.

Teach children a sense of self worth, self respect, and respect for others, and all bullying starts to shrink in scope and effect.

There is no need to be 'right on' about it just because an Election is coming up and you are touring for the pink vote.

Personally I rather they concentrated on learning our children to read, write and do maths properly, some children still struggle with one or all three of those by the time they leave high school.

I know what you're saying Andy, and I really feel for the children of intolerant parents, but the truth is if a child has bigoted parents they're gonna follow (initially at first anyway) their example anyway.

I would prefer my child to be taught a more traditional school programme, one which hopefully will stand her in good stead for when she eventually leaves for (hopefully) further education.

I would like to see an education system where tolerance and respect are actually a major part of the traditional school programme, not just a trendy add-on for vote-seeking politiians.

schools are required to have a policy on this - but I know of several schools that only pay it lip service; because the bullies keep the general population in fear, and QED easier for the school to control. one of these schools was even aware the chief bully carried a knife; the kid that grassed him publically was expelled for being a troublemaker.

My children learned from the examples set at home and the discussions I had with them.

But if TTT and Sqad are anything to go by then it needs to be taught at school because their education was seriously lacking resulting in the warped views they post on here.....
And probably the earlier the better.
