Sqad - "Some 80 singers from the Manchester Lesbian and Gay Chorus (MLGC) \\

The title does enough to alienate me."

Why?
andy....I have difficulty with the concept of homosexuality from either sex, but the thought of a "choir" of them "alienates" my established experiences.

Sorry.

I possible....just possibly could touch a snake....but a pit full of snakes......no.
// I have difficulty with the concept of homosexuality from either sex //

It's pretty straightforward. I'll explain it if you like.

Noooooo!!
ludwig...thanks....but don't bother. The "theory" I can work out by myself, it is just the practical aspect that eludes me.
By doing this, the group are affirming that they think it is it is acceptable for some people to verbally annoy the absolute defecation out of their victims, who only wished to travel in peace.
// it is just the practical aspect that eludes me. //

That'd only be an issue if it was compulsory. Luckily it's not, which is why I don't have a problem with it.

I'd like to be associated with the remarks of the last speaker.
If a have any reservation about a gay choir, it's this ...

The gay community has worked hard (and still does) to discourage any differentiation based on sexual orientation. They say ... treat me like everyone else ... judge me on my abilities, qualifications, etc ... and ignore my sexuality.

So, using the gay community's own criteria, if two people wanted to join the choir ...

1. a heterosexual person with a good voice, and

2. gay person with a slightly less good voice ...

Who would be picked? And how does the gay community's "do not differentiate on the basis of my sexuality" argument apply?

sqad - calm down !

the gay choir are singing in public not having sex....

you could cope with that on a practical level.

as for spiked cup cakes from strangers - AOG's mother told him about that when he went out trick-or-treating last week.
Its website somewhat vaguely refers to welcoming "anyone... who identifies with the LGBT community", but it's also a relatively informal chorus, so I expect that those who are minded to be professional singers wouldn't want to join anyway, regardless of orientation. I'd expect that non-LGBT people could still join if they felt strongly enough about standing up for gay rights to join a choir.

More posturing!
It also doesn't hold musical auditions, so really it's an entry-level choir designed to promote gay rights rather than to provide high-quality singing.

Yes, young men are violently attacked - but young gay people are attacked more. And remember, this is in addition to all the various reasons why straight people are beaten up.

If you asked 1,000 young straight people about the number of times they were physically or verbally assaulted in the past year, and asked the same question to 1,000 young gay people - you would see a marked disparity in the figures.

Therefore, it's only appropriate that we should tackle anti-gay violence, because statistically, you're more likely to be beaten up if you are gay.
I am with you sqad, snake pit and all-I presume we will be labelled homophobic again, by the way i do not like cup cakes either.
AOG

Also - I was already aware of this story, and it was definitely an anti-gay attack, rather than an anti-musical attack (something which I believe is extremely rare).

And the reason I did not open a thread about this attack is because there would be no point. Most people on the AnswerBank would express disgust at the original attack, but I'm not sure what the question would be.
If you can't identify with homosexuality that's perfectly natural, in the same way that some gay people can't identify with heterosexuality. Equating them with "snakes" is a different thing altogether.
I like this choir, they are gay (happy) gays and they can sing.

Life is hard and it is made more difficult by people who attack you because of your sexuality (and all the other stuff). Morons are all around us and they pick on those that they consider to be different. Maybe in time the Moronic gene can be eradicated.

You'll be pleased to read that your presumer is working to its fullest capacity this morning.

Ive noticed this recently in AB too.

It's the "Oh, I can't say this because I'm going to be labelled...xyz".

It happens over and over, without anyone actually labelling them xyz, but people keep repeating the phrase.

It's actually quite a clever move. It nutmegs opposition before the ball is in play (football reference which probably makes little sense)
