I did not specify hanging, I said the death penalty, they don't hang in USA. As for 'mentally ill' as far as I'm concerned jin criminal cases such as this the difference between pure evil and psychosis is a good lawyer.

Lets all feel sorry for the 'mentally ill' person that cut an innocent persons head off in full public view and now, because he's 'mentally ill' we must extend our compassion to him. Guess you would feel differently if a) you's seen it happen and B) it was your son lying beheaded in the street. And be my guest -if ever I lose the plot and behead an upstanding young man in broad daylight in front of innocent bystanders -feel free to 'top me' because I would deserve it,

seriously -why? Criminally insane patients will never ever go back to society,have often carried out the most heinous of crimes, why not just kill them and save the Tax payer millions of pounds? For what purpost are they kept alive?

Retrochic really does have a point in her last post. Is it worth keeping the criminally insane alive (at huge public expense)? I merely ask, it's a difficult one.

To compare 'criminally insane' with 'mentally ill' is like comparing a tummy upset to full blown Ebola. Two people Ian Brady Myra Hindley. Anyone reading the transcripts of the Trial, listening to the sickening tapes they made of children being tortured and crying for their mummies and begging for their lives before being finished off by Brady - would you still want them to be treated with Compassion? They were committed to Institutions, costing the country millions when they should have been hanged. The death penalty should be brought back for this type of crime and for acts of Terrorism on civilians.

A few years ago, the Beeb broadcast a very interesting series on BBC Two, about the rise of the Third Reich in Germany in the 1930's. It made it very clear that the Authorities "practised" genocide on the mentally ill, long before they rolled it out for the Jews, Gypsies, Communists, Homosexuals, etc.

They tried various ways of murdering mental defectives, but one method that seemed to work was to herd them into a large shed or barn, seal that place airtight, and then feed the exhaust of a large truck into the place. This resulted in the death of those inside by carbon monoxide poisoning.

That sort of thing was disgusting and completely out of order and is universally recognised as such.

Once we start to decide that some people are worth keeping alive and some people are not, is the first step down that slippery slope to complete and utter barbarism.

My heart goes out to Rigby's family but murdering his murders isn't going to bring him back. It is also highly unlikely that their execution would prevent future events of a similar fashion. In fact, it would appear that it might actually encourage further outrages, as it seems that these seriously misguided Muslim terrorists look upon death as some kind of reward for their activities.
