Was This Death Caused Deliberately Or Was It Just An Unfortunate Accident Caused In The Process Of An Arrest?

Yet another black man killed by a white police officer, and who is later cleared by a Grand Jury, which has again triggered off riots.

The unfortunate victim was a large powerful man, how else could the police officer manage to wrestle him to the ground and thus prevent him from going through the plate glass window of the store?

Mamy...I think you are right here today, amongst others of course. What you have said shows common sense and compassion.

The reality is that the Police used excessive restraint. It has happened here as well, so its not an exclusively American concern. They went too far, and over-reacted.

In this time in America, when there is grave concerns over race relations, you would have thought that the Police would have realised that they needed to be aware that the eyes of the world are upon them, but alas they didn't. They just carried on regardless. Their arrogance is breath-taking.....in this case literally so.

So another black man is dead, and another Policeman is not to blame, despite the Authorities saying that a homicide has occurred. If a homicide has occurred, and the Police are not responsible, who is ?

Sqad....just seen your post at 15:58. I too can't understand why he wasn't indicted. Perhaps he should have been and then he could have been tried and found guilty or not guilty by 12 of his fellow citizens. Seems like a fair way to go to me.

Tambo, I saw a video of a 50 year old black officer confronting protesters. It was hilarious. A 20 year old white student was telling him about racism. Among the gems she came out with 'A black man can't get anywhere in America today'.
You can see her point if you discount the attorney general, the chief of staff and er, what do you call it, oh yeah, the President.

and it is all done on video ....

If you take away the police uniform and put the officers in jeans and T-shirts, this would look like an execution. It brought to mind a pack of lions attacking a water buffalo (I couldn't find it in me to type -pride of lions-)

Why when it was obvious that the man was in serious trouble were the handcuffs not removed and he be put in a proper recovery position?

There seems to be two distinct camps forming here, and as far as I can recall, it started with Rodney King.

1. The police were absolutely not at fault, and the dead person was responsible.

2. The police get away with murder.

The first one was even proffered when Ian Tomlinson was killed.

In this case, evidence was put forward (much of which we have not been privy to), and the decision was taken that no indictments should be drawn down.

Fair enough...but what people need to acknowledge is that the police do occasionally make fatal mistakes.

The problem we have right now, is that there has been too many of these cases over too short a period, and whatever the facts of each killing (or 'death' if you like) is that public perception of police tactics in the U.S. is now under public scrutiny.

This, in a democratic society, is a good thing.

Ramsey Orta, who filmed the incident that resulted in Garner's death, was indicted on weapons charges stemming from an Aug. 2 arrest, according to the Staten Island Advance. Police allege that Orta, 22, placed a .25-caliber handgun in the waistband of Alba Lekaj, 17, in an area near where Garner died, that is known for drug-related activity. Orta claims that the charges are a retaliatory measure by the police for his testimony in the Garner case.
