good reasoned contribution from AOG

can we get back to the subject please ?

More gunfire in a Paris suburb - banlieue 13 I think -
and Hamid Mourad has handed himself in as he has an alibi it is said
/// Dreadful news.....Just shows how powerful terrorism can be, and why it is practised so widely, all over the world. ///

And then mikey wrote,

/// Only a tiny minority of the followers of Islam are also terrorists. But I am sure that is obvious to most of us. ///

Conflicting messages it would seem.

But time and time again we see it reported that only a very small minority of Muslims are terrorist/extreme.

Where have these people got this information from, can any of them provide some figures to back up their supposition?.
erm any evidence that the majority of muslims are terrorists ? AOG

just wondered
hmmmm
we havent had:

Gunfire - I love the smell of gunfire in the morning !

Col Madd in Apocalypse Now isnt it ?
So as to the IRA, all Roman Catholics are terrorists, AOG? Nice logic about Muslims.....
Most terrorists are male, does that mean us ladies should tar all of you as potential terrorists?
Of course not all muslims are terrorists but very few condemn these atrocities and I believe if you don't condemn then you condone and that's giving tacit approval.
and where would that stop? Once I'd I'd finished queuing up to condemn every robbery, fraud, traffic accident and embezzlement, there wouldn't be much of my day left.
All men get free treatment on the NHS, wolf, didn't you know that. We are all deaf and qualify under that, you women questioning whether we are deaf as we never listen...
You are right, vulcan, but then how many RC's condemned the actions of the IRA?
Silence doesn't mean support. If you lived in a predominately Islamic neighbourhood to object to extremist actions brings you to their attention.
Sandyroe you are presuming a 'predominately Islamic community' would be condoning these terrorist actions and its just not true. On France24 news channel this morning many French Muslims were interviewed and stated these Terrorists have in fact shot themselves and Islam in the foot.
jno, do you not think there is a slight difference between the examples you've given and mass murder? Some of those you've mentioned aren't even printed in local newspapers, this incident is being discussed world wide.
Retrocop, Although there are slight differences between the various interpretations, there is only one Koran (Quran), but the Hadith and the Sunnah (collections of Mohammed’s alleged pronouncements, deeds, etc) heavily influence Islamic law.

Because it is deemed to be emulating Allah’s creation, representations of any living creature are forbidden – but the ruling has not always been strictly adhered to. I think in recent years Islam in general has become far more conservative than it ever was in the past.

Peter is right. The disagreement between Sunni and Shia results from the death of Mohammed around 1500 years ago when his successor became the subject of dispute.

I really wish people would stop comparing radical Islam to the IRA. Apart from imposing terrorism upon innocent people, something that many organisations do and have done, the two have nothing whatsoever in common. Islam embraces a mind-set like no other on earth – and that is what many in the west consistently fail to recognise.
Whilst you are right, naomi, I would say there are parallels in thinking, for example the impact of Opus Dei on the RC faithful......

As you and Peter say the Sunni/*** division goes back to post the death of Mohammed and, in fact, there were seven strands of 'faith' that evolved.
My comment was in response to an earlier one which suggested that silence gives tacit approval.
It doesn't.
Shia - ridiculous that we can't write Shi--ite down here....Ed!
Sometimes a reminder is needed!!

I agree that when I hear people say "It is a very small minority of muslims who condone these actions" I think, which study is this we are following exactly?
There is a very small minority that commit acts of terrorism
DTC,// I would say there are parallels in thinking, for example the impact of Opus Dei on the RC faithful......//

No comparison. Opus Dei carries no compulsion.
