We’re talking about the British Army – not a job in Tesco where someone who objects to handling pork is shifted to another department. A British soldier should be expected to do whatever job is assigned to him. Religious/political foibles have no place in the military – and the military shouldn’t be obliged or expected to pussyfoot around anyone.

There are NO unions,NO association of Black Bombadiers or Association of Black Mariners in the armed services. You are actually required to do what you are told and go where you are told. Are you actually suggesting that Muslims should play the race card and decide their own deployment? You would be trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. You have to have discipline or the whole organisation goes ting tong.

No idiocy or stupidity on behalf of the Met Police. The stupidity or idiocy lies with the Muslim Police Officer who applied to join the DPG in the first place. What did he think the Diplomatic Protection Group do all day and did he not realise that Israel is entitled to have an Embassy on his patch. The Met police would have been highly criticised if they refused to allow him to join the DPG and certain people would be howling "Racist" especially the Association of Muslim Police. He asked to be redeployed because of "family concerns".
Let me tell you this. Most police family's have concerns when their husband
or wife are deployed on pretty nasty demos or other dangerous duties but do not have the advantage of playing the race card!

I suspect many Muslims in the British Army would be keen to fight IS, as are many Muslims in the Jordanian Army for example. And at this point IS is mostly fighting Muslims, not anybody else ...
> The British army is exploring ways to recruit more Muslims as the latest figures reveal they make up less than 1% of the total.
It's not being foisted on the Army. They're exploring it for themselves. I don't see what the problem is - why wouldn't they explore it, especially if it's gone well so far with the limited numbers they have?

Young 18yr old British girls are being threatened with decapitation in this country for being members of the Army Cadets which is a youth organization.Do you honestly think young Muslims will be flocking to join this countries colours because of the political correct invitation by the MOD when the MOD see their own soldiers being nearly decapitated and murdered on the streets of Woolwich by Muslims? They are more likely to join ISIL,as already demonstrated in this country as join the UK armed forces. 500 Muslims in the UK armed forces. How many, again, is it that have left the UK to join IS? Some disparity I believe!!

Retrocop, you are quite happy to put down Gromit as knowing nothing about the British Army. But when I suggest that maybe the actual British Army knows better than anybody posting here about what's best for them, including you, then you don't like it.
I get that you personally wouldn't want more Muslims in the British Army - but so what? It's what the Army themselves want that matters, isn't it?

The British Army are dictated to buy MOD mandarins and civil servants in Whitehall. They will be happy to deny essential equipment to the armed forces because of cost and will dance to the tune of any government in power nearing an election even to promote political correctness.
These mandarins are far removed from the actual soldiers on the ground who are not allowed to voice their opinions whether they consider it a good idea and a worthwhile experiment to have men of dubious loyalties serving with them.

Just pointing out that it was somewhat hypocritical to say to somebody who hadn't been in the Army that they were making "certain uninformed comments in the comfort of their armchair", then go on to make comments from the comfort of their own armchair that were very much less well informed than the people who are making the actual decision ...

Care to give an opinion on the "well informed who are making this decision" from the comfort of their armchair in Whitehall.
A fairly long link but states the "well informed" have spent £28.5 million of taxpayers money on a recruiting campaign which has attracted only 6,000 recruits in 2014.
It is planned by the mandarins to axe 700 senior officers and there are secret plans to cut 20,000 servicemen, in the pipeline, by 2020.
As you have such confidence in the men in the MOD can you explain why they suddenly wish to recruit Muslims.
It is tantamount to saying 500 Muslims can replace 20,000 other servicemen and women which is perverse and,IMO, insulting.
Why Muslims, btw, are the people of the Jewish faith not under represented in the UK's armed forces as well ?
Given the Current affairs in the M.E. and at home does this not appear to be Political Pandering?

Well, the person mentioned in the OP article is Nicholas Carter:
> General Sir Nicholas Carter, chief of the general staff, said: “Our recruitment from the black, Asian and minority ethnic communities has been improving over the years, but it is nowhere near where it needs to be. We have to do more.”
My opinion on him is that he is well informed and seems to have had a fairly decent career outside of the armchair ...

Seems that way. From what I saw on the News last night we have another good old London boy on trial. Seems like the only interest he, and others like him, have in the British Army is to cut soldiers heads off in the UK.Now what if they joined up. They would have a target rich environment at Pirbright Infantry Training Centre especially having a General Purpose MG in their hands. "The enemy within" indeed
