These smoking debates always gets interesting on AB ! I know TTT, and most on here, will agree with me that its a good move, but who will speak for the opposition ?

who cares, like any law they will catch some of he transgressors, not sure why you are making such a song and dance about this one paddy. just like seat belts/phones etc etc they'll nick some, no they are not going to have plods en masse just for this but if a case arises then they have the powers.

It's not just this law Tora, the police we've got can barely enforce the serious laws let alone the relatively minor ones they keep bring out.Don't get me wrong most of these laws are not only needed,they are what the general public want but I honestly believe most of them cannot be enforced in the way they deserve

Being "easily enforceable" shouldn't be the first priority in passing laws. Some will be caught, some deterred, some will get away with it- like every other law.

I won't speak for the opposition. It is a good move. I, who still crave cigarettes but gave up through health reasons, would never smoke in front of children.

So if the car driver/owner is only 17 he can smoke with an adult in the car but the adult must not smoke with the under 18 person in the car?

Sensible people will never have smoked in their cars if there are children in the back....but then this law isn't aimed at them.

We all know who it is aimed at.

The only time I ever see smokers in a car with children in the back, they are invariably driving an 'N' registered Sharan or similar. Will this law stop chavs smoking in front of their kids?

DeskDiary...I used to be amazed at the amount of parents who would turn up on the school run, park up, and light a fag, with children in the back.

They couldn't even wait 5 - 10 minutes!!

Having been a heavy smoker & given up 20+years ago, It is bad for parents or anyone to smoke whilst there are Children passengers in the car, but CAN YOU stop it happening? I valet a lot of cars belonging to smokers, I can not condemn them as I have been there myself, but looking at the state of some cars it does make you think what your inside is like.

Do you think there is any chance of a ban on smoking in bus queues ? When you are walking in the street, you can avoid a smoker, but you can't in a bus queue, unless you want to lose your place, and maybe even miss the bus.
