Ukip: The First 100 Days
Following on from a thread last week, now that we have all had a chance to watch ‘UKIP: The First 100 Days’, what are your thoughts on the way the subject was handled by CH4?
I’m particularly interested in the opinions of those who have actually seen the programme, rather than have simply read about it.
Personally, it seemed pretty believable (at first), seeing as it was based on news items we have already seen, and what the UKIP manifesto lays out.
The only far-fetched dramatic devices I could see were the redundancies due to the withdrawal of aerospace manufacturers (no way that could possibly happen within three months of an election), and the whole cabinet resignation nonsense.
…but then it went to hell in the last 20 minutes where dramatic licence was stretched to breaking point, and all believability was lost.

I would support a change in the law to prevent this kind of speculative programme being aired so close to an election. It isn't really fair.
As Channel Four takes a subsidy off the Government, it would be ironic if UKIP do take part in a coalition. Channel Four might regret commissioning such drivel.

I watched this yesterday in 'incredulous' mode, so today watched it with a sensible head on. From the beginning it was rubbish - 21 days into the UKIP government and apparently and we would be out of the E.U. -no referendum just out -and the next week a huge Company would make their workforce redundant -one week to work out redundancy packages for was it 4000 workers? a) they are assuming a referendum would vote to come out B) why would a huge components firm go bankrupt because we come out of the EU -we could still trade with the EU just like we can trade with China and Japan. Even the scene with the womens intitute was outdated and patronising -obviously they have not been to a WI meeting since 1957. The whole film was utter rubbish.

Those were the points that made no sense to me either.
There's simply no way that could happen in 100 days.
However Sjevk, I don't see this programme as being in any way typical of CH4's recent output. This is the channel that broadcast Benefits Street, The Romanians Are Coming, The Paedophile Next Door...not your typical 'liberal' run sheet.

If UKIP were to win an election and Farage became PM it would probably be on account of what the electorate asked of him.His stance on immigration is part of his manifesto isn't? I would suggest there may be street parties rejoicing the fact that a newly elected PM has actually followed the wishes of those who voted him in NOT public disorder on the streets as this garbage suggested after showing illegal immigrant round ups.perhaps Ed and Dave should take note of this fact as the election nears!!!

UKIP winning the GE would be the single most interesting thing to happen in politics in my lifetime.
I almost want it to happen, just for a short while - to see what the effect would be...
...but only in the same way that I'd like the Cheeky Girls to become Chancellor of the Exchequer.
Not forever...just for a short while...
