Ukip: The First 100 Days
Following on from a thread last week, now that we have all had a chance to watch ‘UKIP: The First 100 Days’, what are your thoughts on the way the subject was handled by CH4?
I’m particularly interested in the opinions of those who have actually seen the programme, rather than have simply read about it.
Personally, it seemed pretty believable (at first), seeing as it was based on news items we have already seen, and what the UKIP manifesto lays out.
The only far-fetched dramatic devices I could see were the redundancies due to the withdrawal of aerospace manufacturers (no way that could possibly happen within three months of an election), and the whole cabinet resignation nonsense.
…but then it went to hell in the last 20 minutes where dramatic licence was stretched to breaking point, and all believability was lost.
Your thoughts?

It was 60 minutes of half-truths, outrageous supposition and in parts plain daft. If this programme had been about any other Party it would not have been broadcast. I would bet this will backfire on whoever at channel 4 has it in for UKIP.

I dunno - some people are stupid. The law of averages dictates that.
Retrochic - there were parts of the drama which were outlandish, such as the exit of the aerospace company and the the fact that the withdrawal from the EU could be decided without a referendum (which is a key tenet in UKIP's manifesto - they wouldn't withdraw without a vote).
However, there were tracts of the plot that seemed very believable to me. Aren't UKIP going to take a strong line on illegal immigrants? If so, aren't raids on businesses employing illegal immigrants a foreseeable product of this pollcy?
As too would the smoking areas in pubs and the protests by both left wing and right wing groups?
There seemed to be a series of events that rang true coupled with a load of nonsense that was there for dramatic purposes.

Whoever wrote this piece of propaganda must of been a student of Reichs Minister of Propaganda Joseph Goebbels. Not at all enlightening and pathetic underhand left wing gutter politics. Pathetic and laughable production. Never ,yet, voted UKIP but if that crap is what certain other serious parties have to offer to warn us of a hypothetical occurrence then I would wonder who is actually living in cloud cuckoo land? Someone has shot themselves in the foot me thinks if this laughable production is expected to give us cause for concern about UKIP's rise to fame.
So under UKIP we are expected to see raids on businesses that employ illegal immigrants who are not only entitled to work in the UK but are not entitled to be in this country either. That is what the UK Border Agency are supposed to do under the governance of any party in power.
Of course because this a hypothetical UKIP government in power we see the bully boy thuggish tactics employed when arresting illegal immigrants and being "fitted up". Well under any other government main contenders who are in the running for the next election the UK Border Agency will be always be hamstrung by the PC agenda and thus shown to be ineffective ,unless ,UKIP get the job done properly without need for this blatant attempt of propaganda.

This is what people want though isn't it?
People want illegal immigrants to be caught and sent home. What are the Border Agency supposed to do in that situation? Send polite letters and hope for a response?
Isn't the Border Agency criticised for not being effective enough at the moment? What would you want them to do to reduce the number of illegal immigrants?

The second half of you most recent post seems to contradict the first part.
Remember, the clips you saw (with the exception of the Samir Khan arrest) were all real.
And I don't think that the Border Agency were portrayed as 'bully boys'. Note for instance that one was very sympathetically shown as an ex-serviceman who'd done tours of Afghanistan to find that he could not find work back in the UK.
Do you think that it's possible that (like me) your own political persuasions informed the conclusions you have on the show?

I quite agree. That is precisely what the people want and expect to happen if only the main stream governments,at the moment, would listen.
Sadly this docu/drama is implying that if UKIP were in governance we can expect a pogrom reminiscent of the round up of jews in the Warsaw ghetto and all the evil and violence that followed. Surely no one in their right mind, no matter how much they disagree with UKIP policy on immigration, can believe that is likely to happen unless they are brainwashed, as were the NAZIS, loony left .

Sorry. I will have to go back to catch up TV and watch this programme again. Did I imagine seeing a bloodstained detainee after a raid and his arrest for assault on a police officer?
Will say no more till I refresh my memory on what I just viewed.
Just for the record I am not flying the flag for UKIP but do like to see fair play which is something I didn't see shown in tonight's CH4 presentation!!!
