Shocking behaviour from onlookers - it is becoming more common. I can't understand the mentality of anyone who even wants to watch a distressed person jumping to his death

I think a large area should be cordoned off and dispersal orders made in these circumstances, regardless of how much it inconveniences others.

Centuries ago, these people would have gathered to watch executions, or bear baiting.

It is an utterly horrible aspect of the human nature of some people that they think that this man's last desperate hours on earth are a spectacle for their perverted sense if amusement.

The only difference between them and Middle Ages peasants is the advent of technology which makes it possible to film such events, and (in heaven's name why???) take 'selfies' while it goes on.

Hopefully if any of these odious cretins decides to show his or her phone record off in the pub, they will be reported and arrested.
Definitely horrendous and despicable by those actually watching and goading the poor man. What have we bred in society now that people can do this and have no conscience over their actions? The heartless filth that pretends to be human!

Hope so, Andy

We're not so civilised as we like to think we are, as a nation.
That's true hc.
This incident just serves to show what people are really like under the skin.
dunnitall - //What have we bred in society now that people can do this and have no conscience over their actions? The heartless filth that pretends to be human! //

I think we have what we have always had - a section of humanity who are incapable of thinking beyond their own immediate wants and needs.

let's face it, no rational thinking human being would stand by and encourage someone to die in front of them.

That leaves the non-rational non-thinking human beings, and they were on show here.

If you took one of them aside and asked them what they were doing and why, the answer would, 9% of the time be - 'I don't know ...' and that would be absolutely correct.

They don't know what they are doing, or why, they act on some base instinct level, the crowd mentality that takes over where intelligent thought ceases to operate.

So we won't waste time trying to figure out their motives and thoughts - they have neither, they are the unthinking mass that makes up humanity's underside - rarely visible, never valid, but always there.
May these vile knuckle draggers never know another minute's peace
Some folk find it difficult to separate fantasy from reality. In a rag mag or similar it may be dark humour to encourage a potential suicide to do what they threaten (yes I know still very debatable) but in real life it is real consequences. Some seem unable to realise that and empathise. Have no feeling for what someone is really going through to put themselves in such a position whether they really would go through with it or not. And they won't understand that they might have made the different; or perhaps even some may not care. It's the variety of different folk and how their mind works. Some feel a need to jump, others find it entertainment to cat call. Thanks one's lucky stars most of us are in neither camp.
Yup Andy I think you're right, it just hits one in the face knowing it actually goes on when one likes to think most people have compassion....I did say likes to think. Sad world isn't it.
It is despicable. I really hope none of those people shouting ever forget it.
...they might have made the difference; or perhaps...
...cat call. Thank one's...
I seem to remember a similar thing happening a few years ago! Sick!!
//Centuries ago, these people would have gathered to watch executions, or bear baiting//

Not really centuries is it? How many ghouls watch the recent beheadings?

Often these sorts of things can be traced to animal instincts, difficult to see how encouraging a member of your species to death does that unless it is Natures odd way of ridding of the weak perhaps?

Luckily most of us in the civilized world have the ability to override any such instinct.
I don't think it's any instinct. People thinking they are being funny or clever perhaps. I wonder how many actually thought he would.
Ghoulish behaviour - if I saw someone atop a building I would try to get as far away as I could once I knew it had been reported to emergency services.

Shame these scum cant be prosecuted in any way or form, aiding and abetting, Im sure there must be some law that could be used if they wanted to dig it out.

I wonder if they even bothered to check see if it was a family member before they started....

Absolute lowlife filth
Some people are just morons.

I hope that they are intelligent enough to understand that, but for their actions, this guy might still be alive.

How many people were there? it just says a crowd.
Despicable comments, but on a practical how many police officers would it have needed to disperse them ? It was a 'busy shopping centre' that was still open so how could you use a dispersal order? I wonder how many of the crowd had turned up because someone had called them on a mobile phone or had seen it posted on facebook and decided to go over for a look?
"but on a practical how many police officers would it have needed to disperse them ?"

let the police figutre it out...thats their job !
