I am not at all sure that this is in fact true.
Food was available - just not a hot dinner because the dining room was closed.
Had Mr Clarkson popped down to reception and asked if there was any way he could get a steak prepared, then the duty manager would have obliged.
Unfortunately, Mr Clarkson felt it necessary to shout at his producer and then punch him first, before obtaining the same result as a polite request would have generated - some goodwill by the hotel, and everyone going to bed happy.

do me a favour, doesnt take much to "split" a lip open, a light knock will do it, had mine opened by my nephew when he was three, just flailing his arm about playing, lost count of the times it happened playing rugby from run of the mill collisions and the like....this is just hilarious....all the self righteous do gooders are enraged. ....as usual.....youre all such goody little two shoes
a mountain range out of a molehill...but as hes not a PC follower they hate him...good i hope he sticks in your craws...obviously he already is
like I said he will have the last laugh, hes already laughing hes a pretty wealthy man...
theyll be queing up to get him and his services, all the talk shows etc etc

Andy -does it matter how much money he makes for the BBC? Do you condone violence within the workplace as long as the perpetrator is bringing in the dosh? On a smaller scale its the same as condoning a boss who regularly beats up or bullies his workforce because he is creating jobs for the community.
To retro...it seems that anything is accepted that has a means to an end. No matter that someone has bee violent or even done a murder...depends on who it is and how likeable that person is in the media et so. Nothing nowadays seems to be as it was, in other words....people,condemned for their actions despite their status. Shame on society because it breeds the thoughts that ANYTHING is ok....as long as it doesn't affect me.

Why do you think the BBC deserve to be 'shafted'? They have acted within the legal and moral boundaries of the country and got rid of someone who has assaulted a colleague, which is the result you or I could expect if we behaved in the same way.
From somewhere, this has morphed into the notion that Clarkson has been treated badly, and deserves revenge on his previous employers - why?
And I wonder why Clarkson is seen as the injured (no pun intended) party here?
Regardless of the amount of money they stand to lose, the BBC thought it might be a good idea to enforce its own rules where physical assault is concerned.
Can't argue with anything you have said there, but let's face it, when a Labour government minister punches a member of the public in the street and there is not only no sanction, there is a response of 'Oh, that's just good old John reinforcing his working class roots...', then you know that society's attitudes are underlined by the media and the government, so it's open season for anyone newsworthy to behave like a lout and get away with it.
If you can find somewhere in there that I have either supported Mr Clarkson's behaviour, or criticised the BBC for its response, I would be interested to see it.

When your nephew does it as a three-year-old, it's called an accident, when a grown man does it in a hotel, it's called assault, and it's an offence.

Nothing to do with being self-righteous or a do-gooder - it's to do with acceptable behaviour, and the fact that it doesn't become alright to hit someone simply because you are 'not PC'.
