She states "When I see the picture it looks completely beautiful to my eyes." and then goes on to say "I wasn't being provocative. The point of the photo was to de-mystify all the taboos that are around menstruation."

Questions:

1 - Is it beautiful?
2 - What taboos are there around menstruation? I can't think of any.

I won't draw a parrallel between this natural, normal bodily function and another natural, normal bodily function that I'm sure nobody would like to see (oops, just have drawn the parrallel).

AOG - ///// Is pregnancy something to be ashamed of? ///

Of course it is not, and no one (least of all me) is suggesting that it is.//

If you post the phrase //Absolutely disgusting, would the showing of other bodily functions be acceptable?

Oh and while we are on this type of subject, why do some women think it is acceptable to display themselves in heavily pregnant posers? //

on a thread which is debating the acceptability - or not - of women posing in certain situations - then that is exactly what you are suggesting - most of all you.

Periods used to be a private affair. Girls and women just got on with them.
This picture is totally unnecessary. Some people feel uncomfortable discussing periods let alone seeing a woman menstruating. My pet hate are the adverts for sanitary goods that are sometimes shown at teatime.
ummmm

/// There are women out there who have spent years trying to conceive. Too right they should get their bellies out and show the world if they chose to. ///

Why does it have to be naked, one can still show they are pregnant without exposing a swelled bare belly.

Would you also think that it would be acceptable for a woman who had ungone bust enlargement surgery to go around bare breasted, "just look at me I have had a boob job"?
So at what time is suitable to advertise products that most women need each month? Should we get up before dawn and go to bed after midnight?
AOG...I really do not care what other people do. It's up to them. If I don't like it I look away. No big deal.

Your premise works on the assumption that all women showing themselves pregnant are doing it in a self-aggrandising manner - which is almost certainly an inaccurate assumption.

People have all kinds of reasons for showing pictures of themselves - this threads originated with a picture taken as part of an art project.

Not everyone is looking to be famous for five minutes.
I'm too scared to comment.
It would be a dull life if we stuck to the things that are necessary.

Wouldn't such Mealtime adverts still be broadcast between those times?
I should also have said in answer to the question of taboos that there are literally too many to list on here. Different cultures and religions still have lots of taboos regarding menstruation.
I'm confused. In the adverts the fluid is blue, maybe she's just rusty.
//what time is suitable to advertise products that most women need each month?//
None, it's hardly an impulse buy. There is no difference between supermarket own brand and branded, we will buy what we need to, when we need to
AOG...'sigh'
Alwaysconfused....they are different products. How are we suppose to know about them unless they are advertised?
they all do the same thing!
The makers are in business for profit - hence advertising.
The question I would ask the young woman in the published photograph is " are you using the correct sanitary protection " ?
ummmm----Tea-time is not an appropriate time for sanitary towel ads. Just sitting down to enjoy your meal and then the ads are flashed up. Not very nice . Put them on in the evening
Plus, having no taboo in my household, MrAC usually takes the liberty of picking up essentials from the supermarket whilst he is out shopping, so I don't get a choice in products. He will seek out brand names, beliveing the more expensive the product, the better it must be. I find unbranded products do exactly the same job, without the pricetag. He watches TV adverts, I don't.
