One could almost believe that our Prime Minister and his wife were paying an overseas visit to the sub continent, but no one would be wrong, this is Gravesend, Kent, UK.

One has to ask why do our dignities have to dress up in Sikh costume etc, do Sikhs remove their turban etc. and dress in Western clothes when taking part in our celebrations?

I always show respect, wherever I am, AOG. I take my shoes off when entering a mosque and wear a bandana when visiting a Sikh temple. I have no respect whatsoever for any man or woman who chooses to behave like the minority of British people who get dangerously drunk as they clearly have no respect for themselves.

50 years ago it was unthinkable for a woman to enter a church of whatever denomination without a hat or similar head covering, just as it was for a man to be seen wearing one, apart from the clergy.

Nothing wrong in that whatsoever, if it is reciprocated.

For example removing their turbans if they entered any of our ancient buildings of worship.

No respecting male churchgoer would enter a church wearing any form of head gear, so why should a visitor from another faith?

Most denominations of the Christian faith have no dress code for worshippers or visitors to its churches, chapels, cathedrals or ministries and everyone is welcome to visit regardless of what they are wearing.

I can't off the top of my head (so to speak) think of any of "our" celebrations that say "thou shalt not wear a turban"

I remember you being castigated on AB a couple of years ago when you posted a thread critical of a Sikh serviceman who was acting as a pallbearer for a fallen colleague, whist wearing a turban.

As some of us told you at that time...a turban is not 'head gear' in the way that say a trilby is, or a stetson.

However, this latest thread proves that you sincerely hold this view, which of course, is your right.

However, I suspect the vast majority of people hearing this would disagree with you.

Oh, and to answer your question...Sikhs do wear western clothing.

Look at the picture of David Cameron sitting down. Notice something about all the Sikh blokes around him?
