How cool is this guy ...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-33741380

Every year, he takes part in the Pride Parade ... on his mobility scooter !!

He carries a banner saying " I'm the oldest gay in the village".

In the past, he has been given a criminal conviction for being gay. This weekend, he married his BF, to coincide with Pride Weekend.

That's the way to go when you're in your 90s!

ummmm
Yes I agree. But I said to be a paedophile is not a crime. To carry out perverted indecent attacks on children is. But it is not a crime for paedophiles to gather every week in the privacy of their own homes and discuss such topics and fantacise on what they would like to do. Would any one want a march trying to promote P.I.E every year in their town. I suspect the answer would be no so you will have to accept that not all are impressed with the need to hold Gay Pride marches either.
Supporting Gay Rights does not indicate that there would be similar support for paedophiles, retrocop.

And bringing paedophiles into threads about Gay rights says more about the person doing so than it does about others...

I don't think you have to be 'impressed' - just accepting and tolerant will do.
Excuse me jayne -

jack - many many congratulations on your nuptuals, I hope you and Mrs jack will be very very happy together xx
We are Andy. Thanks. :o) xx

So it is ok to support homosexuality but not paedophiles?
Anyone with half a brain can see that it is........

I fail to understand why you believe it isn't.

The parade would have followed a route which would have facilitated the best viewing by the huge crowds.

It had to be slightly rerouted because of the bomb scare, but it was still a great parade. From where we were watching it, before we went up to Preston Park, it must have taken, I dunno, about an hour and a half? to pass by. It's hard to explain just how huge it is as an event.
Yes, Retro. I can't believed you asked that question!

I think retro might be teasing a teeny bit.
JJ - //I think retro might be teasing a teeny bit. //

I think you are right, but being a smartie-pants is not always a clever idea - along with making sarcastic jests about paedophilia - not a joking matter last time I looked.

I am not being sarcastic at all and is a sign proclaiming Oldest Gay in the Village not intended to impress then. You cannot know it is a statement of fact surely?
So, anyway, about this hundred year old queen.
It's a sobriquet,a pet name ,a skit on a TV show - sigh.

One thing about these thread is sure - they are an eye opener about the way some posters think and operate.

How on earth does an old man holding up a sign equate to a query about the veracity of supporting gay rights, but not paedophile rights?

I have to add my voice to the others who are wondering how on earth you can ask such a thing?

/// There is a white pride movement, they marched in Manchester not so long back with the National Front. ///

Ah yes I have found the report.

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/arrests-white-pride-rally-manchester-8939646

Interesting to find they were called Neo-Nazis ( i wonder what name they would have chose to describe them if there had not been a Nazi Party all those years ago?)

And since it was a celebration, they committed the vile act of starting off having a drink in the pub.

And of course the police were out in force making the usual arrests, how many arrests do they make during Gay Pride Marches of Black-Pride Marches, but don't get me started on Notting hill Carnival or sp will jump up to the hokey.

In defence of andy_hughes...we all know andy's politics and social attitudes, and therefore, he absolutely 'gets a pass' to post jokes like that.

I know it might sound odd, but when you know that someone is writing or saying something with no ill intent, they will always 'get a pass'.

If some others on AB posted exactly the same thing, I would read it as being snide and patronising.

I know it sounds unfair..

There simply isn't that many arrests at the Pride marches because violent elements are not represented at them.

It's the same with arrest rates at cricket matches vs. football matches.

I was merely answering your question.
// you will have to accept that not all are impressed with the need to hold Gay Pride marches either. //

//I don't think you have to be 'impressed' - just accepting and tolerant will do.//

I am not querying an old man's rights at all. You are putting words in my mouth just as you have said I am making sarcastic jests about paedophilia. Where have I done that?
No one has answered, including you, if they would be happy to embrace a Paedophile Pride March or to make it similar a P.I.E march or do some not now wish to admit their abhorrence here?
Must go now.
Excellent...someone has thrown the paedophile thing into the debate.

I'm so glad that one has cropped up. This thread was in danger of remaining quite sensible at nonsense-free.

We're nicely back on track.

Who wants to do the "Well, we'll be marrying our dogs next"

Or perhaps the classic:

"What was once illegal is now acceptable and next it will be compulsory"

I like the new stuff, but I LOVE the classics.
