Some people seriously think if they put their FB to 'private' their pics will been seen only by those people they want to be seen. Rubbish -if your 'friends' have lax security then your pics are out there for any paedo or whatever to use for whatever purpose.
There is no such thing as a free lunch and since you dont pay for FB (and others) the money has to come from somewhere (they are not a charity).
This means they need to allow access to people for advertising and the such like. Once you start doing that it becomes very difficult to prevent fraudulent use, or even legitimate access being used for something dodgy.
Like I say, FB, Twitter etc all tools of the devil.
Like I said in another post on here a day or so ago..If you dont want it seen dont put it online...I never post anything anywhere online that I dont want others to see..nada, zero, zilch
zac you are having me on right? Unless you have yourFB settings as 'me only' which would be a bit silly, you have little control over who gets to see what you post. A 'friend' could post your pic to someone else who posts it on -get the drift?
Zacs-Master - //Ah, I see the Luddites are out and about. //
My absence of use of social media is nothing to do with the potential for misuse of material - it's more that I don't have the time to correspond with people that I don't know - I barely have enough time for family and close friends, without indulging in meaningless relationships with cyber 'friends'.
I remember an ABer, a returned soldier, who linked to a photo of himself in uniform... which an eagle-eyed biddy pointed out was a genuine soldier and the ABer was an impostor. (He was then banned.) So people use photos of others for all sorts of reasons.
andy - wrote 'without indulging in meaningless relationships with cyber 'friends'. You do that most days on AB -you are on all day! That's why you haven't got time for FB lol!
Talbot -are you really that naive? ok you send a piccie of little willy to aunt joan she loves it that much she sends it to cousin jane cousin jane has not a clue about FB security and posts it on her page as 'public' voila!
