Perhaps saying "All we need is love" is why John Lennon was shot.

lol...I like it Ladybirder
Naomi "...Radical Islam doesn’t compromise. If you could bring yourself to understand that you would understand that there can never be dialogue."

I can 'bring myself to understand that ...' as you rather patronisingly put it - but since the alternative is simply to say that there is no point in trying, then we simply make ourselves as intransigent as they are.

Militant Islamist are living in a feudal system that has fundamentally remained the same since the 12th century - that is their reason for their intransigent attitude.

What do you suggest we use as ours?

Good gagging, ladybirder. And not a bad idea.
Sorry laadybirder - I'm a bit busy!!!
Maybe this lady and her family would feel more comfortable in another muslim country - perhaps one of the Arab gulf countries
Ric.roar - "Maybe this lady and her family would feel more comfortable in another muslim country - perhaps one of the Arab gulf countries"

Maybe she would, and maybe she is a British citizen and wants to come home.

Common sense.

Common sense. "

Is that what you think common sense is?
Maybe she would, and maybe she is a British citizen and wants to come home.

And maybe had she not been dissatisfied in this country she would not have left in the first place
andy-hughes, it's common sense to acknowledge that attempts at dialogue are futile.
Naomi - "andy-hughes, it's common sense to acknowledge that attempts at dialogue are futile. "

If you adopt a position that attempting dialogue is futile, then you are closing the door to potential dialogue, and saving yourself the tiresome task of having to try to open communications.

I happen to believe that the future of innocent civilians in the world demands that even if the door is close, knocking on it may make it open - refusing to knock on it obviously won't.

Add to that the acknowledged fact that Muslim extremists are so firmly entrenched in their belief that they are right, and the have a stubborn streak the size of Neptune - showing them the same attitude will merely re-enforce their belief that they are right, and that we are simply stubborn and pig-headed (pardon the pun again) and if that is our position - they would be right to see us like that.

I do not think we can assume that her departure was because of dissatisfaction with this country.

More likely I would suggest is a (misplaced) sense of loyalty to her husband who we are advised was an IS fighter - and free of his influence and control, she may wish to exercise her own opinions and views - which includes leaving IS society and culture and coming home.

That is just a gem. PMSL What irony. :-)
andy-hughes, They aren’t interested in what we think. They don’t care what we think – and they never will. They are laughing at people who think as you do.

/// firmly entrenched in their belief that they are right, and the have a stubborn streak the size of Neptune///

Irony Klaxon, please, quick!!!!
Naomi - "andy-hughes, They aren’t interested in what we think. They don’t care what we think – and they never will. They are laughing at people who think as you do."

Last time I looked, no-one died of being laughed at.

If I could hear a Militant laughing at my view, I would be in apposition to ask him why he is laughing, and we can start talking to each other.

It's a start ...
Retrocop and baldric - I don't see the irony to which you are referring - either or both of you care to elaborate please?
andy-hughes, You could start talking - he'd still be laughing - and then he'd chop your head off.
It would seem beyond your comprehension.
retrocop - "It would seem beyond your comprehension. "

Billions of things are beyond my comprehension on a daily basis - that's why I ask for clarification when I am interested to explore further - can you oblige me?
