I don't understand your point.
A woman should not assume that a man has evil intentions, but it doesn't hurt to reassure a woman by some simple non-verbal actions if it seems appropriate.
I have followed women down the street, and become aware that they are uncomfortable - it costs me nothing to drop right back, or cross over.
I shouldn't have to, but as I say, it costs nothing and I would rather not be the subject of a stranger's worries - however unfounded.

/// Of course, it is perfectly possible for a man to follow a woman and behave in a completely innocent way. The first thing would be to keep an appropriate distance from the woman in front. The second thing would be to avoid eye contact if she turns round - in my case, I would cross the road to ensure that she was aware that I was not threat. ///
So if she turns round, you would cross the road, that is of course if there was a road to cross, it may be an alley way, or a footpath, what then?
No it is safe thing from a woman's point of view if they consider all men to be potential rapists, just as one would assume that all pit-bull type dogs are potentially dangerous, or perhaps a group of youths coming towards you may be potential muggers.

So you admit that some women, (if not all who can tell) in certain circumstances consider all men to be potential rapists?
Would you then accept that some are not being unreasonable or even racist, in assuming that all Muslims are potential terrorists?

That's stretching it.
A woman walking alone at night would not think ALL men walking behind her is a potential rapist.
If she glanced over her shoulder and saw an elderly man walking his dog, whilst on the phone to his wife she would be reassured. Likewise if she turned to see a chap was holding hands with his boyfriend, she may also feel little danger of rape..

No I don't 'admit' anything of the kind.
A woman alone at night on a dark street would probably feel vulnerable, even if there was no-one in sight. The sight of a man walking the same way may make her feel a little more worried, but that is a very very long way from assuming that he must automatically believe he is a rapist.
"Would you then accept that some are not being unreasonable or even racist, in assuming that all Muslims are potential terrorists?"
No I absolutely would not accept that either!
To lump together the men of the largest religious faith on the planet and assume they are terrorists is an utterly ludicrous assumption.
Fortunately, few people have your growing obsession with the notion that all Muslims mean harm to the west - it is an obvious nonsense, and frankly I think it is an unpleasant and racist one as well.

You have got to be kidding?

ummmm - "Sorry men but I was attacked, not by a man following me but by a man in front of me listening to my phone conversation, knowing I was going home on my own. So...in my mind I trust no one walking behind me or in front of me."
I am very sorry to read that.
Obviously, based on distressing personal experience, you will have a different view of the scenario under discussion.
