Rightly so, Svejk. She cannot go against a court order because of her religion. All she has to do is back down and agree to do her job and she'll get her 'get out of jail free' card...

It's not rocket science.
All I'm saying, ummmm, is the 'air of celebration' is a tad unpleasant.
And Andy said there wasn't one?
So I am lambasted because I said she is Jailed because of her beliefs.

Well she was. Those beliefs, that many others round there will concurr, made her break what she sees as an incorrect law.

So the underlying reason IS because of her beliefs.

Islam ahs nothing to do with then Mickey? How on earth do you work that one out. Islamists throw Gays off buildings because of there (similar) intolerant beliefs. I know that does not fit in with your right-on mantra but it is, nevertheless, a fact. Unless you think they dont dislike Gays?
Oh, and he asked for evidence, so I supplied it.
Islamists are top trumps in leftyland, ymb.
I'd have rather had her carry out her duties as she was expected, and paid, to do instead of ending up in jail......

She has no-one to blame for this state of affairs except herself.
Question Author
It's not a celebration of this woman being jailed. It's more happy that religion is not being put before the law. If defying a court order means you'll be jailed, which I'm sure she would have been warned, then so be it. I would have been just as happy if she'd simply been sacked.
Yes - I said 'Result',simply because I now hope they will get someone in office to allow people in Rowan County to marry, which she has been blocking by her refusal.

When her job became untenable she should have resigned.
she wasn't jailed for "underlying reaons", ymb. She was jailed for defying a court order.

The law isn't interested in her reasons. Do you think it should be? Should people be excused from obeying the law when God tells them not to?
Mamyalynne, she's said she won't resign because (as I understand an interview she gave) this would deprive God of a way of getting His views across.
Well the County will presumably stay bereft of wedding celebrations, hope her supporters are pleased with that situation.

What a joyless place to live.

Mamyalynne " Result!"

People will, of course, have to draw their own conclusions.

Indeed they will.
Question Author
But it is a result, Svejk.

Religion shouldn't be able to interfere with law.

Once again, I'm not talking about the rights and wrongs of the case. I'm just surprised to see people, who are usually so keen to demonstrate their caring, morally superior nature, crowing about a (possibly confused) old lady going to jail. Especially as they're, normally, none to keen to see proper nasty scrotes there.
and I in turn am touched to see the right suddenly discovering a long-hidden concern for people's "ooman rights", as they are accustomed to spelling it.

Though obviously I wonder what they'd say if the clerk attributed her position to being a Muslim.
Svejk - "Little tip for you, andy. Read threads before commenting."

Guilty as charged - I stand corrected.
I'd like to clear a couple of things up here - she's 48 years old, not elderly.

A result for the County or so I thought, Jail will do nothing to change her beliefs nor should it.

She should have resigned,or did I say that already?
Question Author
You said that already, Mamy.
