Oh dear, why does the media give these people the publicity?

Yet another daft parent.
Oh, some parents!! There is usually a school/home contract in place which lays down basic rules - things like 'I agree to send my child to school a) in uniform b) with pen, pencil, ruler c) with P.E. kit etc., etc.'. All very basic common-sense. Also included is a list of basic no-no's - drugs, knives etc..

Trying to enforce these contracts is almost impossible in some cases. The school is absolutely correct.

As a teacher, you learn to walk up very slowly to the smoke spiralling over the back of the bike sheds or wherever, in order to give time for the kids to disperse - if you catch them you get a lot of paperwork and this sort of hassle.
If I was a parent, and had a child at this school ...

Would I want people like this at the school??

As Maggie said early in the thread ... if you don't like the school, move schools.

Smoking involves at least three processes ... (1) buy cigarettes (2) light cigarette (3) put in mouth. Avoiding any one of those steps will help him quit.

Thank goodness I didn't manage to smoke when I tried at the age of 14. I nearly choked coughing and didn't like the taste. I feel so sorry for anyone who has become addicted. It is so difficult to give up. However, if you watch one of your siblings and your father die of smoking associated illnesses I can tell you from experience, it is a big deterrent.
JJ now those are the innovative ideas the cessation teams need - you could be an advisor.

PS

Just a tiny point , swap (2) & (3) round.
There are lots of things at school I think I could be an advisor.

Part of the problem is, people who inherently react against schools like this tend (in VERY general terms) to leave education quite early.

Then, he and his mum will start using phrases like ... I was at the university of life ... I went to the school of hard knocks ... we had it tough ... etc

Well, not that hard, or tough, if you feel it worthy of the national Press when you can't suck on your vape stick. That sounds about as soft and soppy as it gets.

I bet he's not on the rugby team!
He should have stuck to the back of the bike sheds or gym etc.

Talbot - //Probably from his appearances on Jeremy Kyle.. I mean look at them, you can telll just looking can't you!//

Er, no - and if you're honest, you can't either!

I'm not sure whether you don't retain information very well, or you answer diferently depending on whose post you are addressing, andy.//

I do retain information very well, and I don't answer differently, depending whose post I am addressing Talbot.
I thought Talbot was joking on his Jeremy Kyle post, andy, mimicing what some other posters sometime say on these threads. But I'm never quite sure
Of course he was joking...
why? a vaper is a better habit than smoking, and this child picked up a rebellious habit after his father died when he was 12. he has had a tough time.....and it's not like he is skiing or taking drugs or committing robberies!!!! i think parents like to point the finger at other parents sometimes because it makes them feel superior - but it is not easy, nor an exact science. in this case, i think the school are being a bit stupid, because they are saying that they would approve of any other nicotine replacement therapy (that also have nicotine in them), but not this type. they need to look at their policy and update it in light of the fact that people are using these devices now. if it were my son, i would approve of him using a vaper over smoking, and i wouldn't give a flying *** what anyone else thought or said. but.....i wouldn't run to the press and plaster my business all over it either. some people do ask for it. this kid needs help.....not shame or judgement. he's obviously struggling and addiction (to whatever substance or habit) is no laughing matter.
bednobs - he was obviously sloping off and smoking. that's what i did when i was at school, and there will be plenty of other kids at the school smoking whose parents don't care. this boy's mother does - and is being villified for it. you cannot just say to children 'don't do that' and expect them not to. he is addicted to nicotine and most people need help quitting. if it were so easy, there would be no such thing as nrt, would there?
The boy is playing the system - if he's been caught smoking actual cigarettes they would have been confiscated. It's a school not a social club. Ok, he's list his dad but it's pitiful to use that as an excuse.
I'm incredulous!!!!!!! You don't smoke at school. End of story!!
Another one of those "Sell your story for a few quid"

Always the same looking people and photos, sad faces, arm on the shoulder.

Using his dad's death as an excuse is pathetic
The snapper knows exactly what pose required and when...
Well he either has a very well paid part time job or someone is seriously funding his ecig habit too, as i've noticed he's using a box mod (square type battery thingy) which can cost upwards of £50.00.

Not that it makes a difference to the story I guess but the nerd in me noticed that straight away.
ficition-factory - //I thought Talbot was joking on his Jeremy Kyle post, andy, mimicing what some other posters sometime say on these threads. But I'm never quite sure //

That's the problem I sometimes have - and I had it again here.

Talbot - if I didn't hear your irony klaxon, my apologies.
