Seriously, what makes some people tick? Not for the first time our great hero is vandalised.

The statue was daubed with orange and pink paint - Police are looking for a gay Ulster boy.

I know that statue in Woodford Green, I used to go past it on the way to work - it invariably had a stick inserted between Sir Winston's legs to look like - well, you know what I mean - local yobs would come out of the nearby Pub and think it was a laugh - I must admit it always amused me!

No doubt lost on these morons but it's largely because of TGM that they have the freedom to vandalise his statue.

Churchill was instrumental in the theft of vast amounts of oil and the overthrow of the elected democratic government of Iran to protect the ongoing theft. As such he contributed substantially to the problems in the Middle East.

Contrary to the British propaganda, he was not a great man.

Even as an atheist, I must admit that Jerusalem is a rousing hymn and it was mooted as an alternative national anthem, recently but I must be one of a select few English people never to have had the pleasure of singing it because I grew up in Wales (we're migrants, hah!) and a single word in the lyrics put paid to that.

You are viewing Winston's actions with 21st C. hindsight goggles. He was a product of the Imperialist age: he put our nation's needs ahead of countries who had neither need for, nor interest in, mineral deposits under the barren desert lands that belonged to them.

Imperialism is just a high-tech version of feudalism, I'll grant you but we let their ruling class get rich on the proceeds, in the end, didn't we? What's wrong with that?

I have dim recollections (pun, pun) of 1973. I think that was when they twigged that they were getting ripped off and hiked the prices. They can turn the dupply rate up or down, at will, to get us all to play nicely. If American pump prices got anywhere near as high as ours, they'd probably riot.

Granddaughter is coming to us for a break at half-term and we are going to take her to Eden Camp (near Malton, Yorks. - please check it out, it's a fascinating day out.) to help her with her school history project which is WW2 this term. Because Mr. J2 was an evacuee he is going to be able to fill in quite a lot of detail for her. It's time our youngsters were told that there is nothing wrong with the flag of St. George, bulldogs, etc. and they should be proud to be British.

Yes, people are free to splash paint around - but in bygone times they did not feel the need to, they honoured our past personalities and understood the part they played in creating our lives. That is the sad bit.
