Seriously, what makes some people tick? Not for the first time our great hero is vandalised.
What would he make of it??

The whole theme leads to a deeper thread about our national identity - another, and difficult, subject. Sir W. would (had the vandalism been done to another head of state's statue probably have issued to apprehend the perpetrators and make them a national example of disgrace.

Purely coincidental, of course but he got mentioned in two different contexts in "Planet Oil", on BBC4, last night.
His desire, as First Lord of the Admiralty, to update our ships from slow and coal-fired, to fast and oil-powered, is hardly cause for paint-flinging (unless you are German??), I would think.
His involvement in the carve-up of the middle east's oil reserves might have sparked some insta-anger in someone with ties to that part of the world.
Otherwise it would just be general leftie backlash against someone who the Tories, 'Kippers and more extreme far-right groups hold dear.
BBC3 is also running an "Is Britain Racist" theme week, which cannot help wind up hatred of imagery associated with racism, such as Winnie, bulldogs, the Union Flag, the cross of St George and so on.
What a way to ruin Agincourt anniversary year!
