This bears repeating.

Just because this story has appeared several newspapers is not indicative of its veracity.

The way online news now works is nothing like how news was curated when we were younger.

There are now just three major news agencies.

Newspapers like the Mail and Telegraph will buy packaged stories from these agencies, normally without any normal checking protocols.

The same story (using exactly the same words) will appear across a number of titles.

A few monthly later, you normally find the actual truth at www.fullfact.org.

And then the cycle begins again.

This is a product of wafer thin margins that news sites operate under, and the overwhelming credulity of their readers.

andy I've just seen your reply regarding daytime TV and you having to 'work for a living' -don't be so bloody patronising . I work for a living too and so do many people who are at home in the daytime -its called shift work! Also you can access TV on your PC at work and if you are the boss (like me) thats ok lol!

I am getting rather fed-up with your accusations of prejudices and the insinuation that it appears to have done it's job admirably, who do you think you are?

Just because I chose the story from the Daily Mail's website, does not give you the right to criticise my choice of news report or my intentions.

As I have said previously this story is widespread across the media, and such things should not be covered up, the public has every right to know what is going off, even though you 'hand wringers' would wish such things to be kept quiet.

Perhaps it is our Mr Rana Saif who should be criticised for daring to report this story to the Daily Mail, along with also mentioning that they were all African men?

But so much easier and more fitting to your politics to blame the Mail, the gentleman also appears not to be a White Gentleman, so we can't have him criticised for spreading the story can we?

Any other ABer would either have their posts removed or at the worse suspended for doing much less than you get away with.

I did not intend my observation to be patronising - and that is why I added the 'not complaining' point, to demonstrate that I was being sarcastic - sorry if that passed you by.

That is the objective view of the story, but daily tabloids don't work on objectivity, the work on aligning their stance with the views of their readers - as all have done, but the OP centred on the Mail's treatment of the story, so that is why I for one have been commenting accordingly.

I have just re-read my post, and I can see it was carelessly worded - I would never wish to infer that people who are at home for periods of the day do not work - my lovely wife is a prime example.

It is not sensitive with me, it is a made up story. No taxpayers money was wasted. A cross reference to Osborne doubling the National Debt when discussing wasting tax payers money is not diverting anything.

As usual, you link to a story in the Daily Mail and make a conclusion and the story turns out to be wrong and your conclusion looks silly. It would be fair enough if this were a one off, but you repeat the same mistake every day.

Now the facts are know, will you offer an apology for misleading us?
