There appears to have been an explosion in Cardiff. Probably not terrorist linked. Await further details.

So not too much concern about the unaccounted-for or the injured, just a platform for fart jokes & reminiscence. Wow.

Bit late comng in there. L.I.K. has already protested.
I know......but Togo's post was in danger of getting the thread back on course.....

I am well aware that 'black humour' is a standard and accepted way for those who deal with dreadful situations on a daily basis to cope with what they endure - but there is a time and a place for such a reaction - this is neither.

Ahh your back. Been anywhere nice. You have been very conspicuous by your absence?

a-h - my first thoughts were with the people involved in the initial incident, those who attended to help & the families of all concerned.

My sense of humour can be tickled by the wrong things at times, but threads like this - especially considering the immediacy of the event - shouldn't contain even a hint of "humour" IMO.
As tragic as this is for the familys perhaps, before you announce we should have a National day of mourning and cancel sports fixtures, you might put this into some perspective. On the scale of what news there is it is a relatively small scale Industrial accident in a hazardous industery. So far two are missing . Even if we assume they have sadly perished it probably does not exceed the amount of fatal road incidents today in the UK. Very sad but more deaths happen every day other than this incident. This is not Paris and not 9/11. It is a small scale Industrial accident as far as is known.

What's next - worse things happen at sea?

If I had lost a loved one in this explosion, the fact that many more had lost loved ones in Paris would make absolutely no difference to my grief whatsoever!

The fact that the man next door has broken his leg doesn't stop my toothache!

My sentiments exactly.

We are fortunate indeed not to be touched by these tragedies, but that does not make levity an appropriate response on here.
I am a fan too of gallows style humour , it is has got me through many a dire situation.

What was palpable here is that the humour took centre stage and not the concern for the injured/missing.

Seemed odd to me.

I have been to Madrid for two days watching a band and interviewing them.
r'cop - if your post is to me, may I correct you? I'm not suggesting any such thing as "...we should have a National day of mourning and cancel sports fixtures...".

This thread was posted, I responded to what I considered ill-judged attempts at humour. Had the thread been about a serious road traffic incident, my first thought would not have been "can I have some fun here?"

The scale of the event is frankly irrelevant - people have been injured & possibly killed. 1, 5 or 500 - it shouldn't matter.

divebuddy - //Anything to oblige, Jack...................

I would like to apologize to the world and take full responsibility for the death of Michael Jackson.

There, I've said it, I killed the greatest singer/entertainer we have ever known... with my remote control.

I pressed the green button and the news reader said "If you have just turned on your TV, Michael Jackson is dead." //

Are you familiar with the phrase - If you are in a hole, stop digging?

divebuddy - //Andy, Now that you are back I see that you are keen to take up where you left off. //

Unsure what you mean by that - but please refrain from explaining - it will prevent any tendency for this thread to lurch off course as people pile in to comment on one of my observations.
A-H
Like you didn't pile into one of my observations with the rest!! Know what you mean DB hence earlier comment"very conspicuous absence"
Now this thread has really gone to pot.
