Darlington Head Teacher Tells Parents To 'wash And Get Dressed'
http:// www.bbc .co.uk/ news/uk -englan d-tees- 3541315 3
I am amazed by this ! Why would anyone go out in the street dressed like this ?
What kind of message does that give to the kids ?

Mikey...I agree with your comments completely , but many of the modern mothers have totally disregarded etiquette and set a poor example to the children. I suppose that one gets used to the smell of bodily fluids and sweat as it is probably perceived as healthy. It also amazes me that the husbands, other halves, partners or whatever, allow them to act on this...

"Ich - I do think Tescos have a right - I shudder to think the fruit and veg I pick up have been touched by the great unwashed! "
I am afraid that is a hazard we face all the time! I don't wash my hands before touching the fruit and veg (so to speak), even when I choose to visit Tesco in my clothes :-)

Darlington?....would you allow me to diversify......?
Aged 20years of age sqad dated a girl from Darlington, but was dumped for another guy. His name was.....wait for it....RANDY ;-) and when i met him later he was a tall good looking guy dressed in an R.A.F uniform with the pilots's wings ensignia over his left breast pocket and the markings on his sleeve of a Pilot Officer............show off.
Anyway they eventually married and he was later promoted to Squadron Leader.........but now the best bit....she ran off with his batman, a CORPORAL......LOL.( no jokes about Robin).
She was rubbish anyway.....;-)

Just about somes some people up on here really ...Im hardly going to get upset because a few parents dont adhere to the fashion nazis ideal of what people should or shouldnt wear to take their kids to school, especially as they have no idea about the circumstances or exactly what they were wearing....
Better the kids were at school on time than late I suppose, otherwise youd have something else to moan about..
Some people cant get by without being offended...

i am somewhere in hte middle of this. My overriding feeling is that the clothes you wear, the colour of your hair or the tattoos and piercings you have are no indication of what kind of a person you are essentially. If i had a day off, and was running late and had a choice between getting dressed or getting child to school on time, i would probably opt for getting to school on time. I have on occasion gone out in PJs but only when i knew i was not getting out of the car. However, going to parwen'ts evenings and school plays in kimmy-jammies is totally unacceptable. Having said that, i think it's probably a generational thing - "back in the day" PJs looked like PJs. Now you have this odd in-between "loungewear" clothes that could equally be worn in bed or out and about
I wonder if this head teacher would even dare to criticise some who were not of her own ethnicity?
Talk about what kind of message this gives to the children, "scared stiff" would be my answer.

This issue has nothing to do with 'fashion'. It's about self-respect and setting an example to your children. If you see your parents not being bothered to dress in the morning, that's an attitude that you see as acceptable to society, and it's not.

How long does it take to get dressed - even if not fully dressed? I could dress sufficiently to take my child to school in around thirty seconds, we are not looking for top hat and tails and full make-up are we?
// Some people cant get by without being offended... //
That's true - but I don't think people are 'offended' - it's a matter of self-respect, and respect for the society you live in.

I've not read a single post on here, for or against, that suggests anyone is offended by seeing someone out in PJs. If you don't get out of your car then I don't see a problem. If it's standing at the gate or going to parents evenings then personally I'd find it slovenly and a poor example. That might make me old, stuck-up whatever but certainly doesn't warrant me or anyone else being labelled a fashion nazi - now that is verging on offensive.
