who's got the moral high ground in this?
would you be ok with your surgeon breaking infection control rules because religion dictated a particular dress code?

//Doubt the ‘reciter’ would see it that way. /:
Obviously not but I think we're addressing this on two, slightly different, levels.
Me: people hum tunes, mumble words or sing to themselves when trying to concentrate. Worryingly, this is also what some people do when in fear of losing their own lives or, in this case, that they don't cause someone else to die. Which leads me to guess: -
You: He was praying "please, God, don't let me frell this up".
(I know how much you hate others putting words in your mouth but this is just me, guessing what might have crossed your mind).

Divebuddy, //What's the problem.//
There’s more than one issue here and the soup is the least of the NHS's problems. The Muslim doctor walking doesn’t address the problem of unscheduled prayer breaks. The bottom line is if people can’t do the job properly they should find alternative employment.
Hypognosis, // You: He was praying "please, God, don't let me frell this up".

No, that didn’t cross my mind. He was reciting the Koran and that equates to worshipping his God when his mind should have been on the job.

//But I'm not naive enough to expect every hospital to beat themselves up publicly over every little incident. Do you expect them to hold a press conference if the lunch time soup is served a bit late and cold. //
no. but this allegedly involved rule breaking. not that the garment wasn't clean, but that the particular item was not permitted in theatre, clean or not. if hospital trusts permit staff to bend rules to suit their personal convenience/religious beliefs/enter your reason here, even when it's there for reasons of patient safety and security, what point is there having rules at all?
