From yesterday’s appalling slaughter and from all the other terrible atrocities committed in the name of Allah incidents you must be aware that some, at least, are preaching hatred against the west. No?

Hypognosis, //Killing fellow Muslims apparently has dire consequences in the afterlife,//
Not necessarily. A Muslim ‘brother’ dying at the hands of mad jihadists in what they consider to be battle (and that’s what suicide bombers are involved in) would, in the opinion of the perpetrators, be guaranteed a place in paradise since he had died for Allah and would be assumed to have died willingly. Conversely Muslims who choose to adopt and enjoy a western lifestyle are not considered by mad jihadists to be Muslims, but the enemy, and are therefore expendable anyway. A strangely convenient philosophy.

I see nothing changes from yesterday still left and right arguing whose right or wrong!! If I may say something which might upset some but as we live a country of free speech!? The ten thousands idiotswho marched through London on saturday asking for open borders etc must be feeling really pround of themselves today!!

[i]rom yesterday’s appalling slaughter and from all the other terrible atrocities committed in the name of Allah incidents you must be aware that some, at least, are preaching hatred against the west. No?
Yes.
But I assume that the bigger threat is not from the temples, but from the Internet.
Don't you?
And you and douglas9401 are really no great oracles. Seriously - you do not have insight.
You're as dumb as the rest of us when it comes to your understanding of terrorism and it's cause.
It's because it's confusing. It's really confusing. If you think that the rise of global terrorism is something that is simple to explain and simple tackle then I'm afraid that it is [iyou] who are blind.
Perhaps you would like to explain exactly why the fight in Sinai is made complex?
Or why Sunni insurgency in Libya is a greater threat to the west than in Iraq?
Or why Russia is worried about the axis of power being disrupted by terrorist attacks in Libya - and what Pakistan's involvement is?
I bet you can't.
You just don't understand.
I don't understand.
But don't try to set yourselves up as mighty intellectuals on the subject of what to do about terrorism and how to stem it, because it's no where NEAR as straightforward as you think.
We...are...all...blind.

Understanding radical Islam is one thing, but in order to combat terrorism you need way more than that.
I understood Catholicism in the 80s, but wouldn't have had a clue as to what to do with The Troubles.
It's no good just understanding radical Islam...in order to defeat terrorism, the West needs to understand the political and religious complexities of the ME region.

I know your boredom threshold is low but could we quibble over whether suicide classes as "death in battle"? Or is the Koran more nuanced than that?

//
Like that awful excuse for lack of foresight and public safety in Hajj crowds: "they would have died at that moment anyway, wherever they had been", as if their moment of death was 100% predermined? (ie humans have no free will, Allah dictates all)

SP,// I understood Catholicism in the 80s, but wouldn't have had a clue as to what to do with The Troubles.//
That speaks volumes about your lack of comprehension of what we are dealing with here. The ‘Troubles’ were politically motivated. They weren’t fought in the name of Catholicism.
//Understanding radical Islam is one thing, but in order to combat terrorism you need way more than that.//
That’s exactly what we need to do. If we do that we will finally understand that we can combat terrorism perpetrated in the name of Allah to the best of our ability but we will never stop it. Never. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve said that Islam cannot be compared to any other religion on the planet and that radical Islam doesn’t seek peace with the world on anyone’s terms but its own - it doesn’t compromise. If you think there’s a solution – at least one that would be acceptable to humanity - you’re mistaken. There isn’t.
Hypognosis. Islamists are let off the hook for all sorts of things – as long as Allah approves. ;o)
B00, if only! I’d chip in to pay their fare!

You have got the Troubles slightly wrong.
Well, actually - very wrong.
Also, you absolutely cannot think of radical Islam as being a purely religious issue. It's not. It's factional, and it's tribal. If it were not, yen Sunni and Shia would be fighting on the same side. Do you know the links between radical Islam and the genocide of the Kurds?

And there was the fall out from the Zilan massacre.
This goes back decades. It is not simply a religious problem. It's a problem with sectariam, tribalism, politics, land grabs etc.
To hang it all on Islam is a fundamental mistake we make. Islam doesn't exist in a bubble. In the ME territories it is wholly tied up with politics and history.
