Whilst I agree that OFSTED has been rather clumsy here with this seemingly excellent Nursery/Kids Club, I am rather surprised those running the establishment were not aware of these guidelines.

They certainly aren't secret and even childminders have been aware of this sort of thing for years now - it doesn't take an awful lot to introduce some tweaks into the day to satisfy some of these rules.

Having said all that , the locals know how good the establishment is so I doubt they will lose any patronage.

This morning there was a black fellow who had phoned in to LBC radio to complain about this ridiculous decision of Ofsteds and also the fact that calling a black person coloured is now deemed offensive.

He went on to blame this ridiculousness on white liberals.

what are black people happy being called ? i was talking to a black guy last week and i used the term " black people " he was fine. i think coloured is wrong though ie pink, yelow , blue. in my view they are happy with being called black .

When my first granddaughter was born four years ago her mum took her to the paediatric nurse,who was black, for her first check up. The baby was fine and the nurse proceeded to lecture my daughter in law about ensuring the little girl had a mixture of black/white dolls to play with when she grew up.
My D.I.L. asked her where she could purchase a golliwog in the High Street as all the boys and girls had one when she was a baby but seem to be unavailable now due to a prejudice. The next granddaughter did not get taken to that pediatric nurse.

I don't think the nurse should have any doll in mind when she is there to check out infant physical welfare. It is not her brief to elect herself the community race/diversity advisor.

She may well have had to do it so she could tick a box on her performance appraisal form - rightly or wrongly I've been in jobs where I've been required at appraisal time to give examples of how I have promote diversity, engage with the wider community etc.

I remember playing with black dolls at school back in the 70s.

I doubt that made the slightest difference in how I view people of other races. That came down to my parents and grand parents.....

I wonder if all the nurseries in other countries have enough pictures of British people on their walls? They don't need to as they are all here!
